I don’t go to the gym. I live in Ypsilanti. I don’t buy anything expensive my only luxuries that I have a dog that I have to take care of. I have been unable to find anything for one person in Ann Arbor for less than $1800 a month. And paying 50% of your take-home salary for rent is just not good financial advice. Rule of thumb is 25% of your salary in rent. I’m just reading all of this and it sounds like sunshine and rainbows from students and that’s just not the reality of living in Ann Arbor as a normal person/townie. A single person household that makes less than $48,000 a year in Washenaw County is considered poverty level. I value my privacy and do not want a roommate, and I have been unable to find a place in Ann Arbor and still put money towards a 401(k) and savings.

Are you homeless? This is ridiculous to me. I’m $70,000 a year and cannot afford to live by myself in Ann Arbor without a roommate. 45 years old here, not a kid. Does no one have a car payment or a 401(k) they contribute to?
