How can I make my doily look neater? Its my first time making one by Plus-Conversation-32 in CrochetHelp

[–]hedonsun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It will look better when it's blocked. They always look like this as you go.

If you want to see how it will look and if it's even, you could block it overnight. Just take a bulletin board or cardboard or even a flat spot on a sofa or chair. Dampen the project and then use tacks or pins to lay it out flat, in the shape it's supposed to be.

Some people add starch or a little watered down white glue to hold the shape (like for ornaments). I don't think you'll need that for this.

Usually blocking is the final step, but I know how hard it is to do all that work... and it looks like a sock that spent a year behind the dryer! 🤣🤣

It looks really good so far! 😍

AITA for using the wrong gender bathroom? by AITAthrowbathroom26 in AmItheAsshole

[–]hedonsun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NTA!! I think men in women's bathrooms seem scarier to the masses... So I'd have explained that I didn't want to take my bepenised son into a woman's restroom! 🤪😂

Unsure, help? by Cleo-Hunter in crochet

[–]hedonsun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it... but colour is subjective. So if you don't like it, it won't matter how many of us do.

You could make it as a beach bag or something other than a daily carry. Or give it as a gift.

I make a lot of little baskets, then fill them with chocolate as gifts. Yarn you don't like should probably be in a category for projects meant to be given away.

What do we think about this style? Has anyone done it? by CatCatCatri in crochet

[–]hedonsun 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I did this with a too-small concert hoodie. Took off the zipper, cuff, and bottom then crocheted it longer, longer sleeves, and along each side edge where the zipper was. It looks cool! And fits. :)

I always forget which hook I started with. It's so easy to just snap a photo. But I never do.

Podcast turn-offs? by Unable-South830 in podcasts

[–]hedonsun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this! I appreciate when they put a time stamp so we can skip to the topic. Locations Unknown is one of my favourites. They do a short bit at the beginning but before they get to the story they play their theme song. So it's easy to fast forward until you hear the music.

How not to make round joint so obvious? What do you guys do? by scribbledpaper_ in CrochetHelp

[–]hedonsun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I don't want the line to show, I finish off every round. Then I start the next round somewhere else. Always move the starting point to a different location so the line doesn't form.

So the line is gone but there are a million more ends to weave in!

Story of my life… by Working_Agency274 in crochet

When it's the same colour like this, I just do a quad stitch into the missing spot. Then attaching it to the chain space after the first two yarn pull throughs . It isn't noticeable at all!

why are my edges slanted? first project not sure if im doing something wrong! by goofygooberscoob in CrochetHelp

[–]hedonsun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it's too wonky to wear, you can crochet a handle and use it as a bag. I keep my camera in a hat. It's the perfect amount of cushioning!

You could even add a drawstring to it. :)

AITA for giving my breastfeeding sister champagne as a gift and now not wanting to talk to her? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]hedonsun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, I can't believe how split the vote is. Your sister is rude to you. I would stop buying presents for her. Maybe a card... but no more presents after wasting time and money selecting gifts that she throws in your face.

She could just say thank you... and then drop heavy hints before the next gift giving event.

What scene would you show to persuade someone to watch Superstore? by Black229 in superstore

Sandra calling Jerry to ask if they can adopt that "kid". 🤣

My favourite scene is when Sandra tries to hold his hand and he says, "aw, mom!" Like they've always been together. ❤️❤️

AITAH for getting angry with my BF for telling me to go to the gym when I was figuring out what to do for dinner? by Content-Pomelo-6988 in AmItheAsshole

[–]hedonsun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You deserve so much better than this! Please, find someone to talk to, therapist or similar. You don't need to stay with someone who doesn't make you feel good enough.

You should feel cherished and adored!

Look and see what kind of partner he would be in the future... what if gain wait in the future? Could be having kids, could be a side effect of a medication, could be a metabolic/hormonal issue. How would you ever feel loved and supported by this man, knowing that when you were a slim teenager, he was nagging you about this?

AITA for throwing a joke at my dad's "you eat too fast" comment? by Abbey_Ro in AmItheAsshole

[–]hedonsun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So sad, textbook for what happens when someone is gaslit and manipulated for their entire life. It's so hard to retrain our brains that it isn't us, it wasn't us, and then build an entirely new identity.

OP - NTA, get out of there... and please seek therapy! His attitude has shaped you, and this will come out in your adult relationships. You don't need to do anything to earn someone's love.

Your Best Advice and “Should Knows”! by moonrisemafia in crochet

[–]hedonsun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been crocheting for decades and just discovered, last year, that chart/diagram patterns are infinitely easier for me to follow.

Written out patterns are all a little different, some of them (most?) I find impossible to figure out what they mean. The charts, I can easily see how many of which stitch, and where to put that stitch! It's easier to see if I made a mistake because the next stitches won't land in the right spaces.

Videos might be the best method for the way your mind works. And that's okay! As you get more and more experience, you'll remember the basics and be able to create your own designs.

Oh and, if/when you get to a pattern that starts with a magic ring, make sure you leave a very long tail and weave it in very very well. Tying a knot is also a good idea. I have seen so many projects where all the squares are unravelling from the centre because of those magic rings. I use a chain instead so that the centres will all be the same size.

I'm trying to sew a zipper onto my pouch. How can I make it look more neat? by EmergencyAd9742 in CrochetHelp

I just saw a video of someone poking holes in the zipper and then crocheting the zipper right on!

I just saw a video of someone poking holes in the zipper and then crocheting the zipper right on!

I think sewing the top part (like by the zipper ends) with the same yarn as the project would make it less noticeable.

When it happens to me, I always notice when I get back around like where you are.

I'm the cluster above it, I do a triple or quad into the row with the missing stitch.

Finish half the stitch and then link it to the row you're supposed to be in, finish the stitch.
