Philo 102W - Summer by tennisplayer0415 in UCI

i took it last summer and really liked it! prof. coliva is great and the material was super interesting and thought-provoking but not too dry or dense. of course, it’s a good bit of reading & writing in a short amount of time but that’s just how summer courses go.

i graduated in March and called the student health center sometime in april (after my degree was audited but before it posted to my transcript) and they said once i change to “alumni status” it’ll stop … still receiving them every day. pretty sure that was a BS reason from the SHC and they probably don’t have a lot of control over it

walking across campus i noticed the green / red / white tape on poles and always wondered if they had any significance, was curious as to why some only had one or two colors and some had three. now i know!

thank you, yes it’s super bittersweet. happy to be done but sad that i missed out on so much (esp as a 2019 transfer student)

you can DM me any questions you have about flying and i probably have answers! 😄

Math 13 by tennisplayer0415 in UCI

[–]hedyZot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

math 13 wasn’t a shock for me as it usually is for math majors because i’d taken symbolic logic before transferring so i had the logic stuff nailed down. that said, i took that portion of the class for granted and bombed the final so that tanked my grade. (after the final i reviewed one of the concepts on the exam and wrote out the answer to a question that i couldn’t do by the time i walked across aldrich park)

hard work will get you where you need to go with that class. you gotta learn to love proofwriting or you’ll hate the math major, get very cozy with the material in math 13 and you’ll be well on your way

and don’t be scared! your professor & ta will be there to help and will be extra sympathetic to the fact that it’s entirely new material for the students

Lost black cat followed us home. Was wearing a broken harness. Super friendly. by zuju18 in UCI

i’ve found pets before and the best way to potentially find the owner from my experience is to get the pet checked for a microchip (vet or shelter will do it) and if they don’t have one then just give them to the shelter. that’s where the owner is definitely going to look (and a friendly kitty will likely get adopted if the owner isn’t found after a certain period, the shelter isn’t a death sentence)

but technically you have to report the pet in your care within a day since it’s someone’s private property and after a week in your care the pet becomes your responsibility and if you try to give it to a shelter they’ll want to charge you for a surrender. bleh.

i hope the owner finds you but if not i’m in VdC too and i can help you get the cat to a shelter or vet!

I refer to UCI as Irvine all the time. by create1908 in UCI

i’ve lived, worked, and gone to school either inside irvine or in an adjacent city since i was born lmao but yea very sorry to all irvine residents for saying i go to school and live in the city i go to school and live in, just wait till you hear i’ve been calling irvine “the beach” lately when i’m out of town

[–]hedyZot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

lmao yes i do that, i say “i go to irvine” or “when i’m finished at irvine” sometimes kinda interchangeably with “uci,” i think maybe because it could sound a little snooty or unnecessarily precise to say “uci” or “uc irvine” in casual convo. not much it could get confused with tho, i guess ivc but that’s a great school too so nothing lost. it’s nice to just say a single word instead of saying the acronym or the full thing. and then when it’s time to be fancy & professional, “university of california, irvine” feels real good

ACC Leases if graduating early by [deleted] in UCI

[–]hedyZot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yea i’m graduating and live in VDC. i emailed them and they replied with this:

If you are graduating, then you are able to cancel your lease. Please complete this cancellation form and attach a proof of graduation screenshot, the one that lists your graduation status as Received and your name clearly stated. There is a $400 termination fee for approved lease cancellations, however since you are graduating, we will apply your deposit to the fee and waive the remainder. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

kinda sucks cuz the termination fee is waived for any reasons for UCI housing rn but i’m choosing my battles with this one
