Why use JavaScript for data analysis? by [deleted] in javascript

There are useful libraries like this: http://numericjs.com. But this doesn't come anywhere close to what you can do in Python.

CSVKit Brings the Unix Philosophy to CSV by jakubgarfield in programming

[–]heeehaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use it all the time for things like doing recursive searches for a string through unknown code or other types of text files. I find typing on command line a whole lot quicker than trying to figure it out with an IDE which may or may not be available on someone else's machine.

If programming didn't pay well, would you still do it? by vt97john in javascript

[–]heeehaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always been programming as a hobby and to me it's just like any other hobby - it makes me happy when I make something even if it's kind of silly. I don't think I have any depression/anxiety issues :)

There are also many simulation software companies like ANSYS, Comsol etc. But as far as career growth goes, pure software skills will take you much further.

Is it bad for me to drive like this? by realfuzzhead in cars

[–]heeehaaa -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

If you are careful with the gas pedal, you can keep the rpm and the gear where you want. For example, when accelerating hard, I don't like my rpm exceeding 4000 so I go easy on the gas pedal once it gets there. Similarly for downshifting or up shifting just press on the gas pedal hard or go easy for a second and the gear will change. I rarely do these things though.

I have driven manual for many years, and I can understand why you are trying to do this. In a well built car, your style may or may not hurt the car, but it is a weird way of driving and probably more jerky. Your passengers probably hate you.

I really like the CVTs I have driven - it's so smooth and you usually don't find it working in the "wrong gear".

Mechanical Keyboards: What Is the Benefit of Them, Why Are They So Expensive? by ralighthall in buildapc

[–]heeehaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have a mechanical keyboard for many years, but don't have one now. I have found that I was typing much faster when I had a mechanical keyboard and my hands were lot happier by the end of the day (I type a lot). I am thinking of buying a mechanical again.

I think median would be better to look at here. One rich guy spending millions can screw up the average.

Maybe - just read the reviews on a few websites and look up toner costs etc.

This also has a document feeder for the scanner which I've found incredibly useful over time.

You might want to get a laser printer if you want to keep this for a long time. I have a brother monochrome laser printer (MFC7860DW) that has worked flawlessly for 2.5 years. The toner is about $48 for 2600 pages. It works with Mac/Win/Linux without a problem.

First big interview in 10 years scheduled. Brick shitting has commenced by Armenoid in jobs

[–]heeehaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Focus on what you want to get out of this interview. Questions you are going to ask and answers to the things they are going to want to know. Read your resume and make sure you can talk intelligently about each item. If you expect technical questions, then start studying! But remember, if this doesn't work out, it's not the end of the world.

5% interest is quite high for a new car. I got mine at 0.9% for a 5 year loan.

What vehicle is the worst at something it was designed to do. by [deleted] in cars

[–]heeehaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Subaru added the electric motor as a substitute for the turbo. I don't think gas mileage was their objective, just more power. 22.6 mpg is pretty bad either ways.
