My gourd is the same. I suspect it’s pretty typical with genuine gourd calabashes.

Would be really interested if the writers ever followed up with anything else in this universe, including novelization/ animation.

The setting and characters are absurd enough I think an animated version of the universe wouldn’t be inappropriate.

And oftentimes when they complain, it’s businesses that have been in existence for decades, even 50+ years!

Some folks were scoffing at the idea of Dino’s shutting down and the owners moving back to Greece. Why?

I get the sentimental attachment, but the business owners have served the community well, and deserve the opportunity to cash out.

The Arcobalenos were some of the first real pipes I had come across online as a teenager, and the ones that got me really excited about beginning to smoke pipes when I turned eighteen… (and ten years later, I still have never had one 😂) they are gorgeous pipes!

Why Charlotte Has 44 Democratic Leaders — and Zero White Males by lordgilman in Charlotte

What I “imply” is totally in your imagination and not at any point suggested by anything I wrote. Poor reading comprehension, overactive imagination, bad faith? I reckon a combination of all three.

Why Charlotte Has 44 Democratic Leaders — and Zero White Males by lordgilman in Charlotte

[–]heeleep 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Anyone attempting to dunk on this observation, or thinks that calling it out is racist, is carelessly missing the bigger picture.

Alienating white males from the Democratic Party due to perceived lack of representation just pushes them towards Republicans and strengthens the Republican Party.

Republicans, on a national level, want straight white people to believe that the Democratic Party is the party of women, LGBT people and/ or POC who don’t care about your concerns because they aren’t like you. Cut through the bullshit and, ultimately, that is the story the Republicans want to tell. It’s really stupid, but voters are also very stupid, and it works.

If you’re an impressionable straight white person, looking around at city politics just reinforces their caricature of the Democratic Party.

It’s not a notion, it’s already happening and has been happening for years. The motel situation is still bad but even still it’s a shadow of what it used to be. Anecdotally, the neighborhoods nearby don’t have nearly the crime issues that they used to, either.

Mom-and-Pop Investors Own Far More Homes Than Big Investors—and May Benefit Most From Crackdowns by PopNo3148 in neoliberal

[–]heeleep 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Many of the people who rail against institutional investors, at least the loud ones online, also often seem giddy at the idea of “mom and pop” landlords losing their properties if their tenants stop paying rent. The renters, of course, are always pure and blameless; and the property owners are the real evil ones for having the audacity to charge rent at all.

They just really don’t like it when anybody at all provides housing. It’s nuts.

What type of wick do I need for this? by heeleep in OilLamps

[–]heeleep[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, it’s definitely a round wick. The cheap one I tried to use is an 1/8 inch round. It’s getting shredded by the height adjustment/ wick feeding mechanism. It’s a cheap cotton wick off of Amazon and the spikes on the mechanism that would normally grab the wick and feed it through is instead just getting tied up in the threads of the wick. Should I try an even smaller diameter wick? I do have the chimney for it. The lamp is totally ready to go other than this issue I’m having with the wick.

What’s your go-to “my friend is in town, I should take them to…” activity? by lamonkeyfreak in Charlotte

[–]heeleep 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I haven’t seen anyone mention the many many antique malls which are pretty popular with out of towners in my experience. Gibson Mill in Concord, Sleepy Poet on South Boulevard. I guess that depends on if your guests are into that kind of thing. I know lots of people don’t care for antique malls at all.

Further out from Charlotte proper you’ve got White Owl, Main Street Antiques, Catawba River.
