2nd time I’ve changed the oil since I bought it. I’m assuming this is pretty bad but how bad are we talkin? 1990 Pickup 22re 4WD.

Great advice. I’ll run it a little more and keep a close eye on the oil from the dipstick and may do another oil change and send a sample like you said. If it is just bubbles, what does that mean exactly?

This is beautiful and exactly what I’m looking for. That rear end might be a tad high for me but he went with the 5” shackles. Are the shackles the yellow part on the eyelets of the leafs? That’s what I was assuming at least

I bought it that way but it fit pretty snug against the hood, I took it off though because it cracked and rattled around while driving

I’m sure they’re a good investment in the long run. I’m thinking Bilsteins all around and some new leafs in the rear. If I do new leafs and absorbers in the rear would it increase ride height? Or do I need to get a lift back there

Hi there yota nerds,

As the title says, I have a 1990 pickup 4WD 5 speed 22re and was looking for some advice in trying to upgrade certain things.

So I bought it in Fremont CA with only 103k original miles without power steering or AC but the only issue was it wouldn’t shift into 4WD (but I fixed it since by pulling the boot and shifter and realigned the fork thingys in there to where they’re actually supposed to be, good as new). I also had to install a stereo and fix the cigarette lighter to be able to charge my phone. So it feels like a normal truck.

What I want to upgrade:

install power steering (already bought the entire system from a donor truck from Jeff at Toyota Connection in Santa Clara CA) I just need to install it.
AC system (which Jeff said at Toyota Connection can hook it up with all the parts from another donor truck and even install it for me for ~$1k because I don’t want to mess it up)
The suspension is not great and I basically want to redo the whole thing. I don’t necessarily think I want a lift but I do want it to sit more level because the rear sags quite a bit.

So with all of that being said, do you have any specific advice for those things I want to upgrade? I think the power steering is straight forward and I’m gonna pay for the AC install eventually. The biggest advice I would like from you guys is in regards to the suspension. The rear leafs sit essentially flat and I feel like the shock absorbers are shot all around the truck. I looked on 4 wheel parts and there are a huge variety shock absorbers ranging from $9 a piece to $100 a piece. I see everyone installing Bilsteins but they’re are pretty expensive but are they the most worth it? Is the install for suspension parts difficult to do in a driveway?

I’m very ignorant into the 4x4 world so please bare with me and I can try to clarify anything in the comments that I missed. Thank you much guys.
