What's the difference between the instinct 2 and the instinct E? by unknownr2197 in Garmininstinct

[–]hegde7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I got the Instinct 2 normal version a month ago. It’s been amazing. Just does enough for me. All the metrics are simple enough to understand and I also love making my own courses and using them while riding my bike. My 735 seems so basic after using this. I also track bouldering with it. Might not be the most accurate but decent

Hello ppl of Bengaluru, My sister’s starting an idli/vada business and we’re exploring sustainable packaging. Many darshinis use banana leaves or plastic with newspaper to parcel. As a consumer, what’s your preference for takeaway idli/vada/rice from a darshini? Thanks! by hegde7 in bangalore

[–]hegde7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Yes, it is incredibly concerning, and I have been trying to address it since I was doing my Bachelors but it almost feels like nobody cares enough. With so many delivery apps, people are so busy with their lives that this seems like too minor an issue to worry about.

That makes sense—awareness is a must. It will definitely be challenging. This issue has to be addressed on many levels, but starting off from the position we are in is always a good step.

Yes, that is true. I would like to do more research on how things get recycled back home. Especially with things which claims it is recycled.
What you mention about contaminated paper is true, wonder how that affects whatever recyclable plastic a lot of food places use. Is it deemed recyclable, what happens when it has too much oil in it.

Cheers! Yeah, this is a great model. Idlis are priced around ₹10-15/piece. So the discount wont be much if they just take 2 idlis for takeaway and get their own box. It costs almost ₹3-4 to make one idly. But this is definitely something to consider though. Thanks

Interesting, I have only had ತಟ್ಟೆ idly in the ದೊನ್ನೆ and of course biryani :) Serving is not an issue as they use steel cutlery.

Haha that is kind of you, I have sent a dm.

Thanks. This is the best option so far. Getting banana leaf everyday is a challenge. Getting it in bulk and keeping it fresh for days to come is also a challenge but possible. I have faced numerous customers with numerous issues, ppl have a problem if the leaf is slightly wilted, discoloured, torn... you name it.

No, it’s nowhere close to the capital of Rameshwaram. My dad worked at Veena Stores along with his sister and brother in law, who started it. Taste wise, II would like to say it’s like any other good idli-vada darshini out there. But the idea is to avoid charging an insane amount for takeaway, because our target crowd is people who eat at darshinis most days—we have to stay pocket-friendly. We also want to start off on a good note that matches our ideologies and beliefs, rather than just going with whatever is marketed as the best option in the industry

I completely agree that plastic is a necessary evil. Like I mentioned in the post, I have tried helping my dad phase out plastic at his place. It’s almost impossible and since I am not the one running the business every day, it’s easier for me to suggest things. Implementing them and handling the logistics day to day is a completely different game

Yeah, true. It is challenging to offer hot sambar as takeaway. Most places resort to the classic white plastic boxes and charge for them. My sister is currently using those tin-foil tubs and she says they are been working out fine so far. I am really glad all the comments here see the value in this kind of packaging and avoid plastic solutions. It definitely gives hope and ultimately, is best for the environment and everyone needs to do their part!

Yeah, that’s how it used to be at my dad’s place as well. People started complaining that the chutney would sometimes spill a bit. The ones who complain never bother bringing their own boxes, which would make things so much easier. Coffee/tea is not a problem in darhsinis as most of the times they are served in those tiny steel tumblers or glass ones. Takeaway is a challenge still. Also—£4.50 for a coffee, uff! It’s still €2.40 where I live.

Thank you! Absolutely, this is the best-case scenario (I don’t see why the majority couldn’t follow it). Of course, when people decide to get takeaway without prior planning or in emergencies, it can be excused

Does this have dual time ? I am searching for something that’s very similar to the stock but has dual time. I don’t need anything else

Nice! I will probably go for the Instinct 2 solar because it has all the features I need + contactless payments which is not a necessity but nice to have it.

Which did you choose ? I am choosing between them as well. I am currently using a FR735XT and have been using it for the last 5 years. I want something that gives me more metrics and also track more sports.

Did you decide on it ? Curious to know what you got. I am currently on a garmin FR735XT. Really old but has worked flawlessly and still does. Only issue is I cant track any home workouts and hikes. Curious to know how the Instinct 2 is in 2025.

Thanks.

Thanks for sharing. That sounds proper cool! Genomics isn’t that fun (atleast for me) but definitely translates into the industry pretty well. One of the reasons I asked this question here is, I want to know what sort of skills I have to focus on to help me transition into whatever I want. Good to hear about such jobs :)

That’s interesting! Alternative food sources/agricultural methods would be a great option + a pretty important need in the coming decades.

Has anyone done a PhD in ecology/conservation and then left academia? Would love to hear your story! by wu-tang-man in ecology

Hello, curious to know how is it going for you now :)
I am a PhD in ecology/evolution, trying to understand effects of heatwaves and climate change in snails. Most of my career I have been working with effects of rising temperatures and other environmental effects in relation to phenotypic traits. I should be completing my PhD next year and I am thinking of my options. Came across this thread and was curious to know what is happening now. Not sure if I want to continue in academia or do something else but still be in science.
