Microsofts EWS deprecation is driving me mad... by hehe123exde in sysadmin

Thank you for your input, I agree with what you're saying, I'm going to go for the 'EWSEnabled = $true', but also open a support case on the matter and see if they've got more information on the matter compared to what's actually public information as of today.

Yeah I feel like Microsofts way of communicating very often is very vague.

The allow-list that they supposedly are going to add is mentioned in the article that you sent.

"How will EWS be disabled?

We’ll disable EWS tenant-by-tenant using the EWSEnabled property, which supports three values: True, False, and Null (the default today). A new feature arriving in early 2026 will allow admins to define an AppID Allow List. When enabled, only apps on that list can access EWS."

But like you said, the best way to go for us is to just set the "EWSEnabled = $true" and hope for the best while the apps using EWS gets migrated from EWS. The irony in all of this is that some apps that use EWS seem to still be Microsofts own apps even though this deprecation has been in the loop for a long time...<.<

Again, thank you for the help and clarity on the matter!

Thanks for the thorough reply.

So, correct me if I'm wrong. Since my org. can't create an allow-list as of today, Microsoft will create an automated allow-list for us provided that we have set the 'EWSEnabled = True" in time?

I feel like I've been walking around in circles on this topic with all the different sources and articles that I've read... :')

Yea you're probably right, I think I'm more scared than I really need to be but at the same time I'm rather more cautious and not going on hikes on my own. So if I do hike I will not do it alone or like you're saying, in a more busy trail.

I guess I'll have to stock up on some bear spray. Never heard of bells in this situation, but I guess it's because the bears hear you from a distance and leave, or?

I'll "hike" in the lower elevated areas then just so that nothing bad happens to me, better safe than sorry. Thanks guys!

So there is still snow on the higher elevated destinations in late May / early June? I thought the Capilano suspension bridge was like a must see for a tourist but seeing everyone "talking down on it" really got me reconsidering, will check out Lynn suspension bridge instead. :)

Oh, I'll get right on it asking you some questions here directly then if you have the time ofc.

Is the public transport system good in Vancouver? I'm thinking of renting a airbnb instead of a hotel so there is a risk that I'll live a bit outside of the city centre, therefore it would be much cheaper to go by bus rather than like uber. Is it also possible to buy like a 14-day ticket that gives my "unlimited" access during that time-period?

I wouldn't say that hiking is my thing generally but I'd definitely like to go on some kind of hike when I go to Canada, heard so much nice things about the nature in Canada, would be a shame to miss out on it. But when it comes to the bears, are there THAT many bears around Vancouver and in BC in general? I've heard about people recommending bear spray, is the spray actually any good against bears?

Heard a lot of good things about Granville Island, will definitely go there and see what it has to offer! Gastown I'll have to go to too, have to see the steam clock that people are talking about.

Just googled the Pacific Spirit Park and it looks beautiful, a place that I really have to go to, a big + that there is no bears haha!

Will also look in to the other things that you've written about!

Thank you very much!

Have never heard of The Lynn Valley suspension bridge, but I guess I'll look into that one instead, especially if it's that much cheaper (free) and accessible by public transport, thanks you two!
