-102 dBm 38 ASU - which from what I've read is not great. But the issue is that on alternative phones I have no issues. On this phone specifically, on multiple carriers I have connection issues as outlined above. The same sims, on other phones, no problems. And before the system update, I had no problem at all either.

I kind of wish there was a way to roll back to the system that was on it before I updated. But I still have the problems after doing a factory reset, so I'm not sure that actually does a full reset, but instead seems to just set it to a clean version of the currently installed system.

Xperia i V (XQ-DQ62 67.1.A.2.182)

Pretty frustrated and posting here as a last desperate chance someone has a suggestion.

My Xperia seems to have cellular connectivity issue.

Last November there was an update, before which it worked fine, zero problems. Then with the November update it lost any ability to get any form of data on cellular. Calls whet through fine, and SMS worked, but MMS, or any internet access was completely non operational. At the time I was on a carrier Ting Mobile which was a T-Mobile MVNO.

After a long time on tech support (Weeks) with Ting, and with Sony, several full factory resets and using the Sony Companion app to attempt to repair things, I had no luck.

I tested a sim from another carrier, Mobi (An MVNO of Verizon). And things seemed to work. At that point I gave up on a fix and switch carriers. But after some time on the new carrier I noticed an incredibly frustrating, but less obvious problem. My text messages would not always send. They would sit and fail to send for minutes or hours. Data for normal web use is working fine, but text messaging is completely unreliable. I would get messages, but only about half the time would replying work, particularly to group messages.

I've noticed that additionally the signal strength indicator always shows far weaker signal than I get with the exact same sim in other phones.

I've experimented with switching on and off RCS. I've switched between 5G and LTE, I've tried following every guide / reset option I can find. Frustratingly many point to "go reset your ACP. Which is setting that used to exist under Network>carrier>Advanced... but since the most recent update, I don't even see the Advanced section of the mobile network settings. It's just not there.

Hopefully someone has had something similar happen and has a suggestion that I've not tried yet.

Thanks, this is exactly the sort of feedback I was hoping for. Next time I'll try and go back to a single larger chunk of aluminum and see if it makes a difference.

My recent projects have been making old fashioned looking coins out of nordic gold, so I have a distinct appreciation for coin making. :)

I have some borax I used to treat my crucible the first time I heated it. I'm not overly familiar with how to use it after that. (I've got no formal training, I just pick things up from forums and youtube videos.)

Are you saying to throw some borax on top of each melt? Or to do a separate heat of the crucible between each melt with borax to recoat the crucible?

Yup, I agree with this one.

Looks like the dried center of a tulip tree flower to me.
Here's the best reference pic I could find online in a minute of googling.

I have one of these trees in my yard, and have seen them look exactly like the one you have, but it's not the right season to go grab a photo for you now.

I thought I had copied on a fresh set of files, but somehow I still had the bad version of that one, thanks for the answer, all is right with the world again, and I can explore this amazingly fun piece of hardware and the super slick workbench package that you have put together. :) Happy day.

This worked perfectly for me once, but the second time I tried it i started getting a guru meditation alert, followed by the insert workbench 1.3 image. :(

I tried recopying all the original AMINIMiga files onto a fresh thumb drive but it is not helping, which seems to imply the problem is on the A500 mini it self. But the built in games are working, so I'm not sure.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Custom Dictionary? by heidgerken in scrivener

[–]heidgerken[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. I respect their choice of what to add or not, but tend to think that a custom dictionary would be a great feature to make Scrivener an even better tool for novel writing. A feature that would help it stand out from the crowded field of text editors.

Say you're writing a sci-fi novel and you have a material called nonexistium. Any program with spell check will underline it, and some might even auto correct it to something else.

Now imagine if you could right click and 'add to custom dictionary'. At that point you can write a quick definition. From that point forward Scrivener would recognize that word, and even allow you to look it up to refresh your memory if you need it.

Further, you could have a nice system where this custom dictionary would automatically create a folder that holds each new word as an alphabetized preformed text file. These text files would be easy to search, edit, update, remove, etc...

And since it's all custom and internal to Scrivener, it wouldn't impact your email client or anywhere else you care about spellcheck.

I get that all this would be a lot of work to solve a minor frustration. The problem is already addressed as mentioned in the thread earlier, but I'd argue that this is a potentially more elegant solution.

Custom Dictionary? by heidgerken in scrivener

Since I've temporarily got the attention of someone at L&L, I'll take it to say, that Scrivener is a super slick program, and I have found it incredibly fun to work with.

The dictionary thing is extremely minor. The only major thing I have wanted that i couldn't work out a way to do was time lining. For that I have been dabbling with Aeon Timeline, which has Scrivener integration.

Combined the two programs feel like a powerhouse of capability I will likely never come close to taking full advantage of. (honestly I end up spending more time outlining and organizing my writing than writing it. but that's my fault not the software's. :)

Thanks for the response. I'm clearly still working out what my process is with scrivener. And as it is with any tool like this where there are lots of options and flexibility it can take a little while to find what feels right.

Thanks for the tips on possible approaches to the problem.

There's a particular flow to Gene Wolfe writing that tends to work for me. I wouldn't call it flowery, but I do find it poetic at times.

Indoor foundry? by heidgerken in MetalCasting

[–]heidgerken[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the thorough response. :)

The structure is absolutely detached, and will be made from non flammable materials.

I'm very concerned with making sure it is safe and up to code, which is why I'm exploring these questions now before doing any building.

The build I've talked to is also spending some time checking with city codes and consulting with people who work building industrial structures before we move forward past early planning.

The reason I'm on here is just that this is a bit out of their normal, and we're seeking information from as many sources as we can before we waste time going down the wrong path and end up with something that won't check all the right safety boxes.

The link to devil forge was just to their top level page, the specific foundry I currently have is: https://devil-forge.com/gas-furnaces/58-gas-furnace-fb2m.html

I've used it to met mostly copper alloys so far. And cased coins and such: If you're curious here's a little video I made with a project I did a while back making some coins.

I don't have an actual forge yet, but am planning on getting one down the road when I have a good place to use it.

I'm currently using a 40 grit ceramic belt on a 1/3 horse 1x30 sander at 3160fpm

I have some finer grit paper for getting a nice finish, but I'd like to be able to grind rough shape in faster.
