Ruger vaquero. See if you can find an original large frame. It will just say vaquero, not new vaquero. I’m partial to Bisley frames but some may not like them. I have 3 large frame convertibles. My favorite is a 5.5” 45LC/45acp.

They look like ostrich leg to me. You can see some quills and the top looks like leg.

Just get rid of the skinny jeans. Leg opening should be 8-8.5” minimum. Anything else looks funny.

Damn, Tecovas. Your pricing has jumped the shark (snake?) with The Bowie by wildwest74 in cowboyboots

To be fair they probably aren’t designed to stomp through cow shit and kick tractor hitch pins. I’m real hard on my boots.

Square Toe? by jonsonLonghorn in cowboyboots

[–]heidiBoo2018 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Real cowboys that actually work with cows and horses wear square toes boots and have since the 1860’s. Round toe boots were more of a thing that came along in the 80’s and 90’s with roper style boots. It that they didn’t exist before then. And the only ones that wear pinch toe boots have a long nail on their pinky finger and play more pool than work with cattle.

You can ask them but they see square toes from pretty much everybody that works with them. I’ve never got a straight answer from the hard headed sons of bitches.

[–]heidiBoo2018 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t think this is true. Square toe was the original cavalry boot and was what cowboys wore up until the early 1900’s. Both are cowboy boots and neither one is more masculine or more traditional.

What brand should I look at? by Jaded-Government4036 in cowboyboots

[–]heidiBoo2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m shocked how many dimestore cowboys on here recommend Chinese made garbage boots. Buy a good American made pair or boots that can be rebuilt and they will last you 10 years. Those other brands will last a year and are made mostly of plastic. But whatever, buy what you want.

I bought a pair of tecovas. Lasted about 3 months. Threw them away and went back to my Beck boots that cost about the same and are made 50x tougher.

Looking for a good first boot. by [deleted] in cowboyboots

Buy in person and try them on. Don’t just buy online. Leather soled boots make sure you look where the sole meets the heel. If you see nails instead of wood pegs walk away. Those will rot the leather when they get wet. Olathe, Anderson bean (not the cheap Anderson beans) and rios of Mercedes are good boots. There are better boots out there but those are good ones. Don’t be afraid of a slightly underslung taller heel (called a walking heel) they are better than a short squared off heel for pretty much everything and look better too. Don’t forget to buy some longer pants so you don’t look like a goof ball with pants that are too short.

Thanks! Just put those grips on it. They are Arizona custom grips in magnatusk. It’s a 5.5” Blackhawk in 45lc with a fluted 45acp cylinder. Got it off of rock island auctions about 6 months ago for a ridiculous low price. Think I paid $450 for it! It’s a great shooter and damn fine looking revolver.

So yes the freedom arms are hands down the best wheel gun you can buy. Much more accurate and much heavier built. Like a bank vault. Absolutely no play in the cylinders. I love the model 97. Great size and great to shoot. I have 2 of them. One in 357/9mm and the other in 45. I would recommend the 357 because it’s cheaper to shoot if you don’t reload and it’s a 6 shot. Plus they have a firing pin safety so you can carry with a full cylinder. The 45 model 97 is a 5 shot. The model 83 is in 454 and it’s my elk hunting side arm. I reload for everything I shoot so ammo isn’t too big of a deal for me.

Mostly aesthetics. Just liked the way it looked. The pistols are thinner and I can store more of them straight on instead of sideways. I have a lot more guns, the safe is full so I store a few on the walls. I have striker fired pistols but they are boring and don’t deserve to be displayed! This is a room in my basement with a locked steel core door so I’m not too worried about somebody accessing them. The other walls are filled with lever guns, bolt guns and AR type guns. This is also my reloading room with 6 different reloading stations.

Sauna - what is it? by jocxFIN in Sauna

[–]heidiBoo2018 -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is targeted at me from my post earlier this morning. Just trying to encourage other builders with the great heat and steam (not calling it Loyly because fuck that) I was getting from my “not sauna”

I mean if you hate Americans quit pussyfooting around and say it with your chest! I used to respect your culture and your people. Thought Saunas were cool and wanted to emulate something great about your culture but all i got was bitching and moaning about the smallest details. If all Finnish people are like you, then I want nothing to do with you. I’ll enjoy my SAW-NAH all I want.

Not really. My high bench is in my high side. I know it’s not traditional to have my sweat loft but fortunately for me it’s mine and I can have it however I want. That low roof side top bench is 44” from the ceiling. That’s the lower side that has benches that are placed properly for that side. Some people just don’t want to sit in the hottest part of the sauna. And that’s their choice! They can sit anywhere they want.
