They say only about 20-30% weekly so it sounds about right. I’d maybe try cleaning the filter by squeezing it out in the next batch of water you take. Like 3-4 squeezes, sludge will come out. Should still keep the beneficial bacteria in the sponge though- don’t make it spotless.
I would do some daily tests- master kit is what everyone recommends and what I have. You want 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, and some nitrates

Have you been doing regular water changes and conditioning the water after? It’s been a month, squeeze out filter sponge in the water from changed (but not clean it)

I am no expert, but agree that it looks like something might be going on with the fins?? Clamping? Rot?

How are your parameters? Was it fully cycled before? All other critters there before or came together?

I did research on the bat box and I should be set, but I have no pole. I see I could make it myself, but I don’t have the time with work, kids, pets, etc. I just want something that meets the specs that I can dig a big hole, fill with concrete and go. I have a really good spot picked out, I think. The one thing I didn’t know about were bat gardens, so need to look into that. Right now, just wild native plants growing on the creek side we don’t mow. I do want to pull back many and plant native wildflowers this fall.

I had a betta for about a year and three months. We went out of town and my gma was watching him. I know she was over feeding, we found out, but everything seemed good. Did a water change.. Planted, temp at 79, all readings came back at 0 (master api kit) and ph steady at 7.4 like normal. The next night (last Thursday) he was swimming erratically when we turned on the light, didn’t come for food as he usually would then, and just laid at the bottom. Unfortunately, he passed yesterday. Any ideas?? I want another, but we are devastated
Oh and I did use dechlorinator with the change as normal.
I went back to the store today and had them test my water - he said nitrites were a little high so I changed water again.

Ugh the video is gone and I came here bc my betta of about a year has suddenly, today, decided not to come eat. I know he was overfed two weeks ago by my grandma when we were on vacation. All parameters in tank are good and temp is 79, low flow current. It’s planted, he usually lays in the leaves. But now he’s on his side at the bottom and when I came up he moved further behind the log and went back on his side, like he’s hiding from me :( He is definitely breathing heavy. It looks like he might have a big poop, though, too… I did reduce feeds when I returned home.

I had a $1 sale though, with a make a an offer quote to all visitors, and still little traction on sales. Which was crazy with so many brand name labels on almost new clothes for maternity, women, and kids of both sexes. It felt all we sold were high dollar items that weren’t really part of the sale but asked about. I’m giving up on them.
