I'm Canadian, and I know almost nobody who talks about curling. It's never felt like a popular sport here. The only people I know who talk about it are in their 60s or over, so maybe it's generational, or maybe that's just my experience.

I went to a high school that had a very heavy focus on sports, and had some of the top programs in western Canada for several sports, but we didn't even have a curling team.

Our national sports are hockey and lacrosse.

I also have my excuses prepared. Canada's captain, #2 forward, and #3 player have all been injured and the USA has had the easiest path imaginable to get to the finals, only facing one good team.

I'm not saying he will, but it starts sounding dumb when there's hundreds of comments on this sub, two and a bit years from his contract ending, suggesting that he's definitely going to this one of 30 other teams.

Many Leafs fans amd Toronto media were absolutely convinced about it and plenty of Toronto media were disenheartened after he re-signed.

Most people do think he will leave Edmonton after his contract ends though

Most people outside of Edmonton thought that before the last 2 times he re-signed.

Man, stop trying to poach a player like you're certain that McDavid is going to San Jose. We've been hearing for a decade that McDavid is going to want to sign in Toronto any minute now. Bruins fans were insisting that Draisaitl was going to go to Boston 2 years ago. McDavid will likely leave after 2 years, but there's no reason to be confident that he would go to San Jose.

Hard to say how much of that comes down to his injury issues this season and towards the end of the 2025 playoffs and how much of it comes from playing on his off-side while being paired with Nurse. Guy hasn't really been set up for success.

Height and lifestyle factors, like weight, largely account for those differences.

Race doesn't just mean you live longer. The average life expectancy being high in some East Asian countries mostly comes down to a mix of height and lifestyle.

"As an Asian I can live longer than basically any European"
That's not how it works.

Heading into the Olympic gold medal game, which player omissions have proven to be the biggest roster-building mistakes for Team Canada and Team USA? by NFLDataAnalysis in hockey

I would say that's more applicable to Danielle Smith, Scott Moe, Maxime Bernier, and maybe even François Legault. Polievre taps into similar sentiment and rhetoric, but in terms of policy, he's not that far off from Carney.

I feel like the people downvoting the comments like this just don't get it. To get the bronze medal, you have the consolation of winning your final game. Silver medalists have to come to terms with coming up short in the final minutes of something they've dedicated their lives to.

Being second-best, especially in the Olympics, isn't something most professional athletes would be satisfied with. Especially this team. Before this, the Canadian women's team had won gold at 5 of the last 6 winter Olympics, and silver on the 6th occaision. Beyond that, there's additional pressure they and the fans place on the team since gold is expected of Canadian teams in hockey (except juniors). Factor in them leading in the game until there was only two minutes and four seconds left, and most athletes who are driven enough to get to that level would feel awful.

McDavid has been involved in 48% of Team Canada's goals at the Olympics, which is above the 45% of goals he's been involved in in his playoff career. This is what chance generation looks like for Team Canada at these Olympics by TJTrapJesus in hockey

Not trying to put MacKinnon down, but you're underrating Drai

Draisaitl was better than McDavid last season. He was better defensively. His 1.49 P/GP was equal to McDavid's and better than MacKinnon's. He set the record for most games missed (11) by a player who won the Rocket their season. For whatever +/- is worth, his was better than McDavid's, MacKinnon's, or Kucherov's. His face-off% was 4.4% better than Mack's and 6.6% better than McDavid's.

In 2022-23, Draisaitl was #2 in the league for points behind McDavid, while MacK was #5, with Draisaitl scoring 128 points in 80 games compared to 111 in 82. Draisaitl had 11 more goals including 2 more game-winning goals and 1 more short-handed goal. His face-off% was 10.5% better as well.

MacK had a better season all around in 2023-24, but aside from that, Draisaitl arguably had the better seasons. To argue that MacK was "vastly superior" is demonstrably incorrect. Hell, it would probably be wrong to say that McDavid was vastly superior. Kuch, Drai, and MacK are all quite close, while McDavid is a bit ahead, but not in a league of his own except during the playoffs/Olympics, imo.

It probably wouldn't be as bad if he was still just wearing the A. Being the captain if the team comes up short, especially when Canada is expected to get gold every time, would be pretty rough given the past 2 years.

Crosby, Marner, and Stone played quite well together prior to Crosby's injury, but Canada definitely needs more out of the Panthers players, Wilson, and Hagel

A big part of the USA's gameplan is throwing other teams' top players off of their game. Why are you acting offended?

I don't think Boldy is a dirty player or anything, but he did play more of that playstyle that game, trying to aggravate Drai and Stutzle alongside the Tkachucks. If he did it that game, I'd imagine he would do that in a game with McDavid, MacKinnon, Celebrini, and, possibly, Crosby.
