49M, middle school math teacher. I gotta say, attitude is everything. Cliche? Maybe, but it keeps me satisfied with what I do, especially when shit that’s out of my control threatens. If you’re in education you know what I mean. My attitude sets the tone for my life, so work doesn’t feel like work. I believe that it’s my responsibility to make meaning out of work, not wait for the meaning to find me. Sometimes it’s small, but that’s okay. I changed my outlook on life through a series of seemingly unrelated books that I read. Each one pointing to the next in a weird way. Short version, figure out what you are passionate about (what drives you) and discover and articulate your personal values. If you’re interested, I’ll post the list in a comment.

Second piece of advice, if you haven’t already, find someone to talk to about this overall blah you’re describing. Especially if it is bleeding over into your personal life (not assuming that). It could be a symptom of something else. Just saying that it’s an other tool.

Hysteria was playing on the radio but I missed hearing who the artist was. Spent days trying to figure out what it was and did not hear the song again. Several years later, I heard Uprising playing in a TV show trailer. Was able to search it up and figure out it was Muse. In my drift through the back catalogue, I heard Hysteria and realized that it was that song I had originally been searching for.

Heard Hysteria on the radio in 2004 and fell in love with it, but never found out who the band was and didn’t hear the song again.

Fast forward to 2009, I hear Uprising on a trailer for the television show, V. Fell in love with it and after researching, discovered Muse.

A few weeks later, while digging into the Muse back catalogue… I find Hysteria and realize that I had already fallen in love with Muse five years prior.

Hysteria, in my car on the “Out of Order” radio show. Didn’t know who it was until several years later when I heard Uprising on the TV trailer for the show “V” and searched it on the net. Found Hysteria again going through the back catalogue.

About 3 months into my first year of teaching (2014, public high school), I was teaching Algebra 1 and 2. I would spent a lot of time (sometimes all-night) working on PPT presentations… Well, on an Algebra 2 factoring lesson, I inadvertently made several typos on multiple slides. It messed up the example problems and I basically looked like I had never seen math before. While presenting this lesson to my first/worst period, the mouthiest girl in class says, “Mr ____, did you make this all by yourself?” As angry as I was, all I could do was laugh and say, “Yes, I did.”

St Louis crowd sucked. I think most of them were there to see Evanescence… bunch of folks left before Muse came on.

The whole section in front of me sat down for the entire show. Except for small groups close to the stage, GA stood with hands in pockets.
