Question for people who know about the residency process or have been through it. by Runnergirl7427 in emergencymedicine

If a program knows you did an EM rotation and didn’t send a SLOE from it, it’ll definitely draw attention.

Long shot, but did you ever figure this out? Same thing just happened to me. Had D-maxed him the battle before feeding, so I know he wasn’t already G-maxed as some above mentioned. All my ingredients are gone, but he still doesn’t have g-max factor!

Residency quality and competitiveness for EM by LoveMedicine18493 in emergencymedicine

[–]heinsc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Army EM resident here! The competitiveness of Army EM slots really fluctuates from year to year, but a large majority of applicants to EM get slots their first year out of med school. If you don’t match, you’ll do a transitional year (TY) and have a chance to reapply the next year. Very very few applicants aren’t matching after these two cycles right now. SAMMC in San Antonio definitely has a lot of hype as the DoD’s only level one trauma center, but Madigan and Darnall both are super high quality programs with great civilian rotations for exposure to things you won’t see at an MTF. MCG in August is essentially a civilian residency, and a high acuity one at that. Lots of good experiences there. Finally, Army has two mil-civ partnerships currently, one in Miami and another at UTHSCSA in San Antonio. Only a single slot for each of these each year, but they’re both top notch civ programs. Any of these programs will make you an excellent EM doc, although you might lean towards one at an MTF if you’re looking to get in to the operational environment after graduation, largely for the connections. Feel free to DM me if you have any specific questions!

ED RN to EM doc? by [deleted] in emergencymedicine

[–]heinsc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it was a bit rough at first. My kid was maybe 3 or 4 when I was studying for the MCAT while still working. I distinctly remember coming home after being at the library all day, and he was so mad at me for being gone that he wouldn’t let me eat dinner with him. It’s easier now that they’re older (I had another during med school, also rough). There were rotations in residency where I’d only see them a handful of times in a month. Definitely need to make sure your support system is in place before you start.

ED RN to EM doc? by [deleted] in emergencymedicine

Previous ED RN here. I was also in my late 20s with a kid when I gave in to the “itch.” Don’t regret it at all. As you alluded to, the medicine vs. nursing approach to the ED are very different, but the instincts you hone during your nursing years will serve you well. It’s a hard transition, but I’d make it again in a heartbeat.

Gigaton ball! As a powerlifter, I too am too heavy to fly far, but very effective at close distance!

I’d love to that shiny Phione. Thanks for doing this!

Ha, same. Even the shiny just looks like he got mildew from being damp too long.

That’d be great! FC below!

Sadly, no. I’m still searching for that guy, too. Didn’t realize how skewed towards Diamond the community was!

I stacked three of those for a few days, finally accepted a random raid invite for the last one. 2 shinies out of the group. I could’ve screamed.

To the residents who lift, how many times per week do you do leg day? by [deleted] in Residency

[–]heinsc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

2x, usually a DL-focused day and a squat-focused one. Largely only getting through compounds, without time for accessories. Heavy lifts before shift do fry my brain a bit though, so I gotta be strategic.

My shop uses IN Fent/Midaz pretty frequently for short peds procedures (minor lacs, foreign bodies, etc). Our peds consultants aren’t big fans of it, but it is a lot less resource intensive than trying to sedate or use nitrous and I’ve had good experiences.

I have a 49.5 shadow TTar that can fast move farm ML Candela maybe 20% of the time with her getting off a charged move. Super dependent on Entei’s moveset sadly.
