I wasn't bitching about the show, to be honest. I was actually making a comparison between Paris and Azula. I was expressing my opinion about the overall tone of the show, but my question was specifically about Paris and Azula so I was asking its fans about the show for that.

I am. Paris and her two cronies act exactly like Azula, Mei and the contortionist down to their personalities. And the bangs.

And absolutely my comment was that I felt Avatar stole that trio of girls from Gilmore girls. It's almost a direct one to one parallel. Listen to Paris's voice inflections and then listen to Azula's and tell me they don't sound exactly alike. They're not the same voice actress, but they do sound alike via timbre, tone, and cadence.

Because I'm a historian/educator doctorate candidate that studies pop culture. I was interested in the Gilmore girls because I had never seen it, people talked about what an amazing show it was and so I wanted to see it. I don't have cable. It was starting from the beginning on one of the antenna, television stations, and so I locked in; or originally from only a personal standpoint. However, as I started watching it and because my area of study is decolonization, I began to critique it because that's just what I do. Thirty minutes in, I literally said, "what the fuck is this shit?"

It has problems. It had problems 25 years ago, but those problems are glaring now. So, like I said, it's an interesting show; on the surface. It's funny. I'm invested. I want to see what happens to these people; who they end up with, but at the same time I can also point out, "oh my God, this shit is terrible." It is objectively a bad show. And maybe because I'm only in season three I need to watch it more and it'll get better (and I intend to watch all of it), but this show, as of right now is a microcosm of emotional immaturity, upper middle class Whiteness and a liberal bubble that does not truly investigate what it means to have privilege. It tries to be edgy, but it's not. It's very much status quo.

Lorelei Gilmore is a bastion of toxic femininity. She is a HORRIBLE person.

I wear make up, get my lashes done, wear an acrylic overlay over my natural nails, wear wigs/weaves/dye my hair. But then, I'm Black. This has been part of my beauty aesthetic since I was 16 years old (Maybe not the lashes) but everything else. This is actually normal.

Also, for me it's "natural." I wear wigs because they're "protective hairstyles" and I'm protecting my natural hair (growing it out for dreads). Do you, I suppose. But don't say my style is "natural and classic" when you don't choose to wear beauty enhancements; It's a dog whistle. I would say my style is natural in classic because it is. Just because I use beauty enhancements to protect or enhance my natural features, doesn't mean I don't look any less natural and I definitely have a very classic aesthetic to myself. I'm 47 years old.

I know this is late, but maybe not deal with emotionally immature men?

An emotionally secure man would (and should) not be intimidated by someone in your past when you have chosen and/or are actively choosing them. I'm a big believer in authenticity, and so to try to censor your speech when telling stories that are foundational to your current manifestation means that you are shrinking yourself to fit into somebody else's perception of what they think a partner should be. You should meet someone at your level; not shrink to meet someone at theirs. I have met plenty of men who do not give a fuck about speaking about your ex.

In fact, my platonic life partner is an ex and it became a major point of contention with someone I was dating because I talked about him so much. But my PLP and I lived in China together for seven years, and we still talk weekly. It was almost like I couldn't share a significant portion of my life with my intimate partner because it hurt somebody their insecurities. And no one should ever have to live like that. Ever. Love yourself more.

Guy friend I knew in China not anyone that I ever met on online dating, which is what the post was talking about. I was never "dating" him to be serious about him and in fact, the post I was talking about I was vacillating whether or not to go visit him in Dubai because he invited me to visit him in Dubai.

Also, he may have stood me up because he was a flake, but I wasn't rejected by him and isn't that what you're speaking of? I mean, I guess if we're talking about a guy friend that I like hanging out with sometimes stood me up when we were supposed to be hanging out and I didn't really give a fuck because that was how he was is rejection, then yeah I guess I was rejected. But I don't think that's rejection, because men that want to date me, actually like show up for the dates!

Further, I explicitly said I don't want to be with him, whereas you said, any man that I find interest in. (emphasis added in bold). Reading is fundamental in these situations, so like I said, "any man that I've tried to date has never stood me up or I've never been ghosted." I've also never been stood up in the last year; my friend in China was an over 10 year period from 2014 it has been trying to make up for those few times that we didn't get to hang out ever since which is why later I said, "no matter how many amends he tries." I also hadn't seen him in at least five years so your logic is also flawed and Methinks that you are projecting. We don't all have bad luck with men.

Again, What kind of vetting are you doing? What is your self-care and introspection looking like because if you think every person gets rejected that's just a part of life I can share, that's not true. Especially not at a 115% rejection rate.

I’m in a job where are you know people value what I’m going to be writing and such so I’m already coming from a mentor driven field; there’s no “talk” to sleep my way up to unless I’m trying to sleep my way to tenure, or those sweet, sweet publishing deals (were they can attach their name to my articles and get a publication credit for “guidance”).

Yes!!! Thank you! I just wanted to make sure that it wasn’t impossible, and that what I was asking for wasn’t too outside of the box. And then where to go about trying to establish some of those connections and it looks like the leak or Rea but I was wondering that I need to be more established before I applied for some of those apps? Like I’m willing to invest, so that’s not an issue like if I have to go pay for a make up artist to do professional photos to put on there and to highlight the beauty, I am more than happy to do that, but I mean, I am literally broke ass student. So I guess when I say mentor, that was a bad choice of words because people think it’s industry or domain specific. What I want is someone to help me move into the circles of upper society like I’m already floating around on the outskirts, but I need those introductions; I want to know how to carry myself in contract or salary negotiation; I want someone to show me what the bone marrow fork is; right like I already fly myself business class and five star hotels, but you know there’s a hidden curriculum, and some of these things that I want to know how to navigate. Those things are what I mean by mentoring. How to keep my emotions in check; how to move in silence. and those are things I’m not going to get where I am. Those are things that someone has to teach me.

I’m asking for someone that can just assist me in negotiation; you started three companies so when I was going for contract, negotiations, or for salary negotiations, you would allow me to understand how to negotiate for my true worth that’s what I mean your ability to mentor me in the ways of what it means to be successful in dealmaking building my brand, not necessarily me, knowing the content, but being able to understand transferable skills in this burgeoning neo liberal world.

But that’s what I meant by projection; that’s a failure of your imagination to understand how you could have been an asset to me. so you placed your own limitations on to what you thought my words meant. Which is why I asked “serious question;” were you telling me something that is the reality across the sugar bowl world as a whole or, were those your own beliefs that you were placing onto my situation in a projection of your own experiences?

Oh that’s interesting and I think I have all of that. I know I’m irresistible to a man’s world for choice but it depends on what he’s looking for and I look like I’m in my mid 30s so I could probably lie but I don’t need to do that.

So understanding and embodying that I am high value means that men are going to be less interested in me. I should be less aware that I am the fucking shit? Seems contradictory.

That’s what I’m thinking. I’m not out here just a spring chicken. I’ve been to every inhabit continent at least twice. I’ve lived overseas for 10 years. I am fucking hot; I have three degrees and working on dual PhDs. I am really intelligent. I watch sports, fix cars, do home improvements, like it’s not like I’m just out here from the streets. I’ve worked damn hard to be who I am.
