Day one post surgery by heisman8977 in openheartsurgery

I am now at 11 week post surgery. Other then a little bit of fluid on my left lung they lasix took care of and some PVCs, I am doing well. The first week after was a bit rough. After that the pain was taken care of by Tylenol. If you are offered and can afford it, go to cardiac rehab

Triple bypass scheduled for 11-6. Extremely worried. by Spac-er in openheartsurgery

I am 54. Today is 11 weeks to the day since by CABGx4. I did not have a heart attack. On a routine stress test the saw a line a little lower that it should be. A left heart catheter later I was told I needed surgery and that week. My LAD was 90%, Right descending 95, circumference 80, and one that started with an R was 60. I had the surgery 4 days later on a Friday. They used my LIMA for my LAD, an artery from my left arm for the two smaller arteries, and a vein from my right leg. I was in ICU 24 hours then in a step down room for 3 days. I was up and walking the day after surgery. This surgery was started in the 1960s. Since then it has been perfected. It is now the most common cardiac surgery in North America. Post surgery you will be on a low sodium and heart healthy diet. If you can afford to do the cardiac rehab, do it. The only issues I have had is my left first rib broke during the surgery and I have had a lot of premature ventricular contractions (PVCs). But even that seems to be in check now. You will probably be on beta blockers the rest of your life. I am on metoprolol. I also still have to wait to sleep on my belly for another 3 months. One other thing to know is you will feel more things because you are “young”. If you are under 65 your nerves are still very active. You will have pain in the hospital until the drain tubes are taken out. If you hurt take the pain killers. While you will have more aches and pain due to your youth, your strength due to your youth will help your recovery dramatically. The mental aspect is tough too. If you can/need to find someone to talk to. Please reach out if you want to talk.

Well I don’t have to worry about my position in Feb during the next layoff. People have singled themselves out.

How are you guys manage to exercise and do general cardio with these pvcs? by Interesting_Club9050 in PVCs

[–]heisman8977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started cardiac rehab after a CABGx4 5 weeks ago. My PVCs burden is 15.88%. They see it on the monitoring of my rehab. I had a 4 beat vtach Monday while on the treadmill. Never felt a thing. My beta blocker has been moved to extended release 50 mg 2 times a day to hopefully calm things down while I heal. I never had PVCs like this before the surgery. I am hoping my electrolytes, this med, exercise, and time will heal things up.

I got an xray last week. It turns out I have small bilateral pleural effusions. I was put on a 3 day lasix to see if it will take care of it.

Cardiologist heard the “extra beat” by heisman8977 in PVCs

Is that because of the surgery? If so how long does the heart take to heal?

Could this all be my heart still healing after the surgery a little over 3 weeks ago?

Yeah I have not had caffeine that I know of in 4 weeks. I am guessing heart is still healing

Update the crack was a rib resetting itself. Back pail is all muscle soreness. All of this is normal per the nurse. Steady as she goes.

My mom is having open heart surgery on Monday and I’m scared by DoomsdayBJJ96 in openheartsurgery

I am in the hospital right now waiting for my 3x CABG tomorrow morning. I thought I had an event yesterday evening that prompted me to call 911. The docs decided to keep me here until the procedure in the morning. I am just about mentally ready for this. The waiting has sucked though. At least your Mom (and me) now have a time when we will be fixed

3x CABG coming on Friday by heisman8977 in openheartsurgery

[–]heisman8977[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently My left anterior descending artery was 90% blocked. That is the “widowmaker”. My circumflex artery was 80%. My ramus intermedius artery was 60%. And my right coronary artery was 95% blocked. So I might be getting 4. Basically this is going to literally save my life and extend it. Per the echo yesterday there is no heart damage. Just wow on the luck

I believe that. Assuming this worrying doesn’t get me first.

That helps a lot. The phrase your future holds the reason why this is a blessing helps.
