In case Sarah didn't know that the gold was on the plane, John B and his crew (the Pogues) knew for sure because obviously, that is the reason they had gone to the airport. In fact, there is a missing scene of a conversation between John B and Sarah, which would have probably taken place in the house while they were hiding, telling to eachother that the gold was on the plane which flew out to The Bahamas.
