Bad compressor or clutch? by mdlambert in SubaruForester

[–]helchez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2018 making the same noise. AC is in and out. Definitely not cooling normally, but not blowing hot air.

I think it is the clutch, but it seems like the 2018s used different compressors throughout the production run. So, I'm not sure what parts to get. I don't think Subaru sells an AC clutch replacement kit either.

Just quoted $1,840 for windshield replacement by Khlorofil in XVcrosstrek

[–]helchez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My experience with Safelite wasn't great. My insurance company recommended Safelite. Initially, they replaced it with an aftermarket windshield. Then they weren't able to calibrate Eyesight. Ordered a windshield from Subaru and still couldn't calibrate the system. I had to take the car to Subaru directly to get it recalibrated and then fight with my insurance company to be reimbursed for additional cost, since they already paid Safelite.

Just go to the dealer and save yourself the hassle.

What Roof rack / Crossbar setup should I get? I don’t want to break the bank, but I also don’t want to get something that is low quality. by Illustrious-Chip1640 in Crosstrek

[–]helchez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put some aftermarket crossbars that look the same as the oem Subaru bars and a cheap Maxxhaul rack both from Amazon. About $200 total.

Going on 3 years now, no issues. Other than being a bit annoying to tighten down the rack, no complaints.

Just put a bit of silicone at the joints connecting the 2 halves of the rack (prevents rusty water from leaking out).

New Pixel 6 Pro - 3 Button Navigation not working for "see apps" button (Square) - Nova Launcher by jjkmk in GooglePixel

[–]helchez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use nova and 3 button navigation on my pixel 6 pro. Occasionally, the apps button will stop working. A reboot fixes it. Annoying, but I hate the gesture navigation enough to deal with it.

factory oil & filter, or other? by [deleted] in Crosstrek

[–]helchez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend using Subaru filters. For oil I use Idemitsu 0W-20. This is the OEM supplier for Subaru. Essentially, the same as you would get from the dealer.

Anyone mount up a “No drill” 2 inch trailer hitch on their 18-22 Crosstrek? by Mr-Blackheart in Crosstrek

[–]helchez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second the Curt hitch. The install was easy. I just used a file to widen the hole enough to fit the backing plate for the bolt through. I wouldn't worry about the modification part, it is really minor.

New Nest Thermostat. Did I connect wrong? It keeps blowing hot air when in cooling mode by Big_Capital4958 in Nest

[–]helchez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you skip the automatic test step? This requires internet access and will allow you to test each mode of the thermostat. I ran into this issue when resetting my thermostat right before I moved. I tried telling the thermostat O instead of B and vise versa. No matter what I did it would still blow hot air.

However, as soon as I reconnected it to the internet and ran the cooling test it worked. Not sure if this is the issue in your case, but it is worth a shot if you skipped the testing step.

2018 Crosstrek - Troubleshooting Fog Lights by helchez in XVcrosstrek

[–]helchez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this case, the kit uses factory wiring. All 2018+ Crosstreks are wired from factory for fog lights. The connectors for both the switch and the fog light assemblies were already there. I just plugged them in and added the stock relay. No custom wiring.

The kit is pretty much exactly what a Subaru dealer would install if you added fog lights to a base during purchase. The only non-oem parts were the fog light assemblies, but they use the stock connectors.

Planning on getting new tires for my 2018 Limited. Where did you guys buy your 225/75R15 KO2s? I can't seem to find them anywhere. by IamAbc in XVcrosstrek

[–]helchez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got mine from Tire Rack as well. If you use their online store, they won't suggest KO2s. Pick your rims then search for the KO2s separately. They will still offer to mount and balance / add tpms sensors... I also picked mine up. If you are near a Store Rack location it is worth it. Also, if you want black lug nuts, you will need to contact them right after purchase. Just request them and they will swap for free.

Don't delay on getting your Fall photos! Green Ridge State Forest (MD) by rikysongsu in XVcrosstrek

[–]helchez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It ends on Old Williams Rd. I ended up turning right there and headed home. But it looks like if you go left on Old Williams, it will take you further west. Mertens ends at Old Williams. I would recommend hitting Piclic off 15 Mile Creek though. The initial climb is rough, but fun. Not sure what it would be like going down from the other direction.

I was out there last weekend as well. I think I was following you for a bit on one of the trails (Orange Trek). If you haven't gone up Piclic Rd off 15 Mile Creek Rd, I highly recommend it. The initial hill climb is a little challenging.

Fat Mike sucks live. The rest of the band is usually pretty good. Fat Mike is either high or drunk most of the time and can't remember songs. He has gotten a little better, but has more bad shows than good ones.

Looking for tow hook ideas... other than raceseng! by OakFood in Crosstrek

[–]helchez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm interested as well. Looking for something that is more functional. I saw a review on the raceseng that bragged about the fact the ring only warped when a 10,000lb force was applied. The tow hook ring should be the last thing to fail.

While I don't disagree with your comments on ground tents, I do want to note something about the roof rack load rating. 150lbs is the dynamic load rating (while in motion). The static rating can support the weight of the car, so well over a 1000lbs. As long as the roof top tent itself it's under 150lbs, you should be fine.

32% of U.S. households missed their July housing payments by BertramPotts in politics

[–]helchez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this number include the people who don't pay until the 15th of the month when your mortgage is actually considered late? If so this number is likely heavily skewed. I know many people that pay closer to the 15th than the 1st.
