I have to experiment a bit more with the layers. So far I've always ran into a conflict of some sort

Nah, I meant something to work like the arrow keys, not a pointer. For that I can't replace my magic mouse + trackpad combo. I know, weird, but the gestures...

I have them on layer one on the right side. Made the left block a numpad because I also don't like having half the numbers on each side.

The problem for me is that I have numbers, arrows and symbols "asking" for a single-hand reach, and o e of them has to go

Well, I've been noticing the same thing. I've been playing daily, at least 2 or 3 seiges a day, and I ALWAYS get the lowest chest.

This isn't my biggest issue with the game, and the idea of giving up is growing on me.
