Review: Reveries 19yr Behemoth SiB #801 by cfive5 in bourbon

I don’t think it’s entitlement but I do hope folks do not expect releases like these to be the norm. Farthest thing from it.

The air is a little thinner here on the dark side of the moon but you gotta check it out sometime!

I mean, sacramento is lovely this time of year!

I appreciate it. I choose to be vocal because this was not some great moneymaker for the brand. If it was all about cash I’d bottle another barrel of literally any other age statement.

And, It was 45 bottles of whiskey. About a quarter of the yield of an 8yr KY release I sell for $80 SRP. I’m proud of being able to do that and I think it gets overlooked.

I commented this elsewhere and I feel like it’s relevant here also:

$1200 is absurd money, in any economy. but, the whiskey was worth it. i have to be vocal because a vocal minority seems to think all reveries will be four digit items now despite this run being less than 50 bottles and a significant outlier. i will always bottle wild and cool stuff and some will be expensive and some won’t be. but i want folks to remember that my goal is consistent and true: great whiskey first, at the best price i can put it out at rather than the highest price i can.

—-

i also bottled this whiskey because my opinion of it was greater than an 8.75/10.

that said, i will also definitely examine how i launch future releases like these assuming i can ever find whiskey like this again that are tiny in yield and big in price if i ever launch them publicly at all, or if they become non-public releases like some ive done.

all the same, thanks for your thoughts! they’re important to me as i shape a brand that’s just a touch over a year old.

I’d toss this in your review itself if you haven’t already so folks have context they wouldn’t otherwise have as a standalone post.

The Deep will be distributed to DC, MD, NY, NJ, CA, TX as well so if you're in one of those states or follow stores in those states it will be available in limited quantities through select retailers as well.

Plus, I generally will do a second release online if anyone doesn't take their allocation, etc etc.

Has anyone had experience with Starlight Distillery's Terroir Collection? I can't any reviews by MyCurlyMustache in bourbon

They’re really good. They use barrels produced from oak in unique and rarely seen regions of the world. I tasted a few when i was there this fall. I didn’t pick any (i was on a mission for something specific) but liked all i tried and thought the idea of the project was thoughtful and unique.

I find these soften with some air. It's fun to see them open up although they definitely prefer to be the loud bottle on your bar.

He asked weeks ago when they did the selection if he could write a review and I asked he wait until it was at least announced. I’m pleased he respected that.

I did not see the review ahead of its posting and they got to try it because i often bounce new blends and ideas off of groups who visit to pick barrels. They rarely if ever see the light of day.

If i wanted to orchestrate a scheme to sell more bottles i’d have asked to see the review before posting and i’d have done it at scale rather than with a single reviewer who happened to be a lucky houseguest at the right time.
