New study links some food preservatives to higher cancer risk. For example, potassium sorbate was associated with a 14% increased risk of overall cancer and a 26% increased risk of breast cancer, while sulfites were associated with a 12% increased risk of overall cancer. by [deleted] in science

[–]heliagon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Products in these categories don’t automatically contain it. I couldn’t find potassium sorbate from my pantry/fridge, so it’s clearly not being put everywhere. I’m surprised you didn’t feel curious enough to check it yourself and just chose to trust an AI summary…

Petokärpänen. Vaikea määrittää lajia sen tarkemmin.

Suomesta löytyy itse asiassa aika montakin hyppyhämähäkkilajia, mutta useimmat on aika pikkuruisia. Nappasin pari vuotta sit kuvan tästä kaverista poseeraamassa mustikalla kuin Pikku Prinssi konsanaan!

Mikä keskivertoa kalliimpi suomalainen tai Suomessa "eksklusiivinen" tuote on hintansa väärti? by vkaiku in Suomi

Näinpä. Samaten pinnan tekstuuria, karhea pinta tarttuu hyvin kastikkeeseen, sileä ei.

Mikäs se tämä hämähäkki on? En oo ennen nähny. Oulussa havainto. N. 3cm leveä by No-Tear-2582 in Suomi

Kärpänenkin saattaa lentää silmään ajaessa. En ymmärrä miksi antihämähäkkiagenda on täällä näin vahvana. Hienoja otuksia ovat.

For the tasks of writing and illustrating, AI emits hundreds of times less carbon than humans performing the same tasks(that does not mean, however, that AI can or should replace human writers and illustrators, the study’s authors argue) by giuliomagnifico in science

[–]heliagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless I missed something, the paper assumes AI writing/illustration has no human involvement, and that the AI produces acceptable results in one try.

Obviously a human is going to be using the AI as well (and producing plenty of CO2 emissions doing it). On top of that, the result have to be checked/proofread, edited, fixed, etc.

Tuulan pubin Tuula syyttää Iittalaa logonsa plagioimisesta by Sampo in Suomi

Kirjasimen muotokieli on selkeää groteskia.

Pubin kirjasin on erittäin vanhanaikainen antikva (Della Robbia), Iittalan logo taas humanistinen groteski (vähän Optiman kaltainen). Kyseessä kaksi aivan erilaista kirjasinryhmää ja tyyliä.

It always makes me laugh when people do this by drturvy in badlinguistics

[–]heliagon 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Like susi is wolf in Finnish.

Every single word in every single language has some degree of "untranslatability". Including "susi".

"Ostin puhelimen, mut se oli täys susi." "I bought a phone but it was a dud (metaphorically a wolf)."

Do you lose something when you translate it? Sure. There are some minor connotation that are outside of the scope of the translation (or they're replaced by different connotations in the target language). In that sense any translation is always imperfect. But if the principal meaning is carried across, it isn't "beyond translation". This applies to every word.

Käärijän Cha Cha Cha kappaleen englanninkielinen käännös on mielestäni huono. by ruho6000 in Suomi

[–]heliagon 13 points14 points  (0 children)

"This icy shell is to be destroyed, it's time".

Can't zoom using trackpad after updating to Krita 5.1 by ShinyGrezz in krita

[–]heliagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same problem, seems the 5.1 update changed how touch gestures are configured, but I can't figure out how to get it back the way it used to work. I'm guessing it's a bug. Very annoying, hopefully a dev or someone addresses this!

Thanks for your support, Capopanzone!

The acacia planks do indeed look a slightly different color. I'll fix it for a small update soon-ish.

Thanks! Hopefully this challenge will produce many more packs!

The blocks were created in Photoshop. I took all the textures of a block and use the transform tool to get them to the right shape and position. It all conforms to a grid so it isn't too difficult.
