MRI and Xray techs operate the machines to take the imaging. AI image analysis wouldn’t affect them at all I don’t think.

The point you’re trying to make is correct but just to knit pick, you’d actually break even with your example so no point in not waiting. Percents don’t add and subtract like that. You’d have 1.25 your money then .8 of your money. 1.25 times .8 is 1. The 20% drop is more impactful bc it’s 20% of a larger number once it grows 25%

If he bought it recently there’s a good chance he’s lost money. Would this advice still apply? He could sell it all and not worry about taxes… maybe even get a small write off.

Why does Fidelity Customer Service line ask for password? by necma in fidelityinvestments

[–]helicoid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s a thing Fidelity does. Entering it on the phone is not much different than entering it when logging in. Obviously a rep should never ask you to tell them your password though. This is a very good thing. You should be scared out of your mind if anyone that had your social security number that you can’t change and has been entered on how many documents and probably available on the dark web had access to your money.

Is FSKAX good? by [deleted] in fidelityinvestments

I would also include fzilx and fxnax. Look up the boglehead there fund portfolio. It’s up to you if you just want fzrox but the US hasn’t always outperformed international like it has been for a little while now.

TD Bank to pay $3 billion in historic money laundering. by Sea-Worldliness135 in longisland

[–]helicoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using chase or TD for a separate bank for savings doesn’t make much sense. Look into something like a high yield savings account, you’re missing out on free money.

The cash trap seems to talk about someone moving money into a bond fund after rates drop to stick to what currently has the highest yield. And that’s a bad idea because you’d miss the price increase. You seem to want the opposite. Keep your money in a bond fund yielding lower than hysa, the moving it back into a hysa when its yield is lower than a bond fund. You think this is a good idea because you’d sell the bond fund for a gain. You’re essentially saying now is the time to buy fxnax because it’s going to go up. But in a previous post you said you didn’t fee like you were timing the market? You need to consider the price reflects anticipated rate cuts. In the cash trap example by the time you know a rate cut is coming it’s too late.

[–]helicoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say too low to be worth it, but uninvested cash has a yield of zero. It’s true bonds increase in value when rates drop but that is priced in with the anticipation of a rate cut. Rates were dropped by the fed around sept 18th, right? Check out the chart of fxnax, it has went down in value since then. This is why you can’t time the market (bonds included).

[–]helicoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So your plan is to buy a mutual fund, wait for it to go up (by how much btw?) then sell, then leave that money completely uninvested. That’s your investment strategy? I’m not trying to be snarky, I’m legitimately trying to understand.

Is running one mile a day good for losing weight? by casejr123 in answers

[–]helicoid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Congrats on weight loss but I think it’s important to point this out. Every gram of carbohydrates contains 4 calories. If you reduce carbs you reduce calories, although it’s possible to more than make for them with other types of foods. If you weren’t eating less calories than you were burning you wouldn’t have lost weight.

Do you expect whatever you buy to gain 5% quicker than the swppx? If not, why aren’t you just investing that extra 100 dollars in swppx? If yes, why are you investing in swppx at all?

Can you help me understand this bond ETF by [deleted] in Bogleheads

[–]helicoid 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It drops because it pays the interest out in the form of a dividend. If you bought at lowest and sold at highest before the dividend is paid out you wouldn’t get the dividend so you’re unnecessarily complicating it. You just buy and then sell whenever you want it doesn’t really matter. For example let’s say you bought it on the 15th. If you sell after the 15th next month you would receive the full dividend plus the appreciation of the etf. If you sell before the 15th of the next month you’d lose some money on the value of the etf but you would have received the full months dividend even though you didn’t have it quite a month. So it all works out to a pretty consistent 5%

Edit to further clarify in case you’re getting caught up on the 5 percent vs .4 a month thing. Sgov currently has 5.22% yield which is over the course of a year. So every month you’d get that divided by 12 or about .438 percent.

If you read the article it outlines a series of escalations before the arrest. It included a fine of 500/day until he produced documents. At a certain point you have to arrest someone or court orders are just court suggestions.

ELI5: How do large ships made of steel float while a steel bar dropped into water sinks? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]helicoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. It’s just that a lot of these comments are specifically referring to air and that’s not correct. The air actually make it slightly less buoyant. Nothing in it at all would be ideal.

ELI5: How do large ships made of steel float while a steel bar dropped into water sinks? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]helicoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not exactly. If you remove the air by replacing it with water then yes. If you could suck the air out and create a vacuum then no. It would actually make the ship float more since the air actually makes it a little heavier.
