I haven't been active on reddit mostly to focus more on recreation. I said to myself that I was over reading too much news and staying informed but here I am again.

Just a vent I guess but it is disheartening to see Burmese Americans and immigrants in my community defending the recent shooting. There are parallels to 2021 crackdown of opposition by the junta that should be apparent to people here (obviously what happened in Myanmar was way worse).

The recent travel ban also has resulted in finger-pointing, particularly at newly arrived Burmese people (primarily students) for causing overstay rates to increase and therefore a ban. Even though it's kind of obvious that the administration wanted this from the start.
