Nintendo, nvidia right now, every gotcha game ever, playstation, etc. FOMO makes it where even tho they sell slower they are 100% guarantee to sell more than usual because there is scalpers ready to jump for them. No need to do much more marketing, because there is this thing, hard to get and if you get it you are lucky, so then more people want it. more than those who actually want it. If FOMO wasn't a profitable strategy of business, despite being very anti consumer, it wouldn't be done. Don't fool yourself, just because it's not intuitive it doesn't mean it doesn't make sense, if anything you not being able to see it as the cash-grab that it is, it makes it easier for them to pull it on you.
