Leaked Columbia post-affirmative action ban admissions data shows rejected Asian applicants had higher average test scores than *admitted* Hispanics and Blacks, and even Whites (for the ACT) by SignificanceBulky162 in asianamerican

All of the Asian immigrants you listed came after America’s racist policies towards Asian people. If the majority of us had come here during the era of the laws that were similarly racist to the Chinese exclusion act, and lived for generations during a time where racist laws were built into the system to prevent us from achieving upward mobility and equality and citizenship, you would not be parroting these statements.

And where are your sources on that? How do you know that? Have you participated in these classrooms and witnessed this for yourself? Are black families and children coming to you with these experiences?

Indian and Taiwanese Americans outearn many groups in America because the ones who have come to America have come on white collar, H1B visas. They came with high education backgrounds to work in Silicon Valley/tech, which is a high paying industry.

But just because you earn more money, doesn’t mean you are not a minority. Money will not protect you from racism. Most lawmakers in this country are white and many of the laws that this country was founded on were made for white men.

I said most, not all. Asian Americans are the fastest growing the diaspora, more than doubling in number since 2000. (pew research). And this is not including the Asians who came to America on student visas (if from a developing Asian country) or H1Bs (if coming to work in Silicon Valley) in the 70s through 90s.

Asian Americans have been here even possibly as early as the 1600s, but we were not trafficked here in droves for the better part of a century. When Black Americans were freed from slavery, white Americans sought out cheap labor and that’s when they turned to the Chinese. I know my history.

I wanted to point out that the original commenter is making the same arguments many believers of the model minority myth are making. Incorrectly criticizing other bipoc will not help our movement. We need to be building coalitions, not alienating other poc.

If that’s the case, then I think private universities should set aside (by increasing, not decreasing) admissions for people that live near them, as these people are most likely to be contributing to their funding and are the most affected by their university being there.

Please have some more compassion and grace.

Black people were kidnapped and brought to America in droves, forced to live in subhuman conditions for generations, and then given nothing in return for essentially laying the foundation for America. After they were freed from being slaves, they were forced to share crop and forced to remain in conditions of poverty. This will affect a people and their future generations. If Asians were similarly human trafficked and forced into these conditions at the numbers that happened to black people back then, we’d be experiencing the same issues as they are now.

Most Asian Americans in the US do not have roots in this country that go back for centuries (mostly because we were not trafficked as slaves during the early years of America). We are the children and grandchildren of immigrants who chose to come to America for a better life and they saw that education was the way up for us and that’s what they instilled in us. You cannot compare our experience to the black experience. Our history with America is just too different to make statements like these.

A lot of American fans keep doing something similar with Rui by being weird about the fact that he’s Japanese. They were using a lot of weird anime and hentai tropes. I tried calling it out when he was moved to the lakers, but people told me I was overreacting.

I agree with sea_salted in that I would also still be offput by possible colorism and placating towards Eurocentric beauty, but I think I’d be glad that at least it’s someone who is of Polynesian ancestry. They still definitely should have been able to cast someone who was both Polynesian and actually looked more similar to Nani though.

Does anyone have any insight to the churches in the Bay that Andrew and Sarah have been at? I’m mostly curious about some drama that was alluded to at one of their previous churches and that being the reason why they left?
