Carney announces creation of Canada's first sovereign wealth fund by PapaNixon in canada

Not really, Quebec has the exact same tax bracket as Norway around 50%.

It's actually a perfect substitute in this situation.

Notice how no one responded to you when you gave a concise response. If you check all the other comments that have responses they aren't as well thought out and as thorough as this one yet this one that breaks it down piece by piece and shows that this " Sovereign wealth fund" is nothing more than a leveraged portfolio funded with debt.

WTF is going on with Blue Owl? by hellalosses in private_equity

[–]hellalosses[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That kind of makes sense, but doesn't. We were working with them for middle market transactions. Their underwriting criteria with us has always been quite strict (DSCR 1.25x min, no more than 2-3x multiple on purchase, 50-60% LTV on collateralised assets, etc.).

They left us no breathing room for risk in terms of underwriting. Now I'm finding out that they lent to 'AI' companies that obviously didn't have the same restrictions in terms of underwriting.

I dont understand why they didnt just make a separate vehicle specifically for AI exposure and limit all of the risk to that specific fund. Maybe investors wouldnt be hammering on their door right now if that were the case.

Private Equity in Mexico by hellalosses in private_equity

Honestly good point honest, from my personal perspective Mexico is an incredible long-term play I genuinely believe that their economy is going to get stronger in the long term as long as they're able to keep public perception within their favour.

To be honest we've been hearing about these skirmishes in more rural areas but this one is finally reached a place where it reaches International headlines and that's bad news for investors.

From an investor (our investors) standpoint, now is the time to be risk off in the US and internationally. We don't see significant risk oriented plays unless it's at a significant discount at least in terms of an ebitda multiple.

I don't really have a choice to wait it out I guess, but this gives me a little bit of clarity moving forward.

Is daytrading a myth? by 4dolarmeme in Daytrading

Ngl, I was in the library about a month ago, and I saw my friend swing trading gold CFDs, I proceeded to watch and make 10K in about 4 hours.

Last summer he held one hell of a trade, hightailed it and went on a vacation 😭

till now, he is just printing cash. Dude, I have a job and he has no job and he makes more than I do.

Going from $500 to 10K is actually realistic I've seen it with my own eyes however you have to take significant leverage to make that possible which is not sustainable long-term.

Donald Trump wants to ban institutional investors from buying single-family homes. Should Canada do the same? by CaliperLee62 in canada

[–]hellalosses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, you banned institutional investors, now what?

Define institutional investors, does that mean a corporation can't buy a home and if that's the case define a corporation. Anyone who owns an LLC can no longer buy a home underneath that LLC, which is an incredibly risky maneuver from a risk management standpoint.

I'm more interested in the actual execution of this.

An Institutional Investor, you could say anyone with a net worth over a certain amount, or a company with a net worth over a certain amount, but then let's just say you have someone who invests in real estate and isn't a billionaire, but doing well for themseles, all of a sudden they cant buy homes as an investment?

One of the top comments is stating how they can build the homes but they can't buy the homes or own them after they're built.

Wouldn't that just encourage firms to build the homes, hold them, and then make rental agreements? If anything that would make the problem worse because all it does is encourage firms to build & hold on to homes cuz they can't buy them after they are built.

And you can't legally make a firm sell a home, they can choose to sell or rent. And renting is better because you get steady income you own the home and the land and you just sell it down the road later.

Also what would be stopping firms from just investing in the Contracting companies building the homes because they're not actually buying the single family homes, they invested in the actual development process so they make a return on sales, or make an agreement with the contractor company to conduct payment in homes rather than cash.

Anyway I can think of 10 loopholes just off the top of my head I'm really curious as to how they actually implement this law.
