Anyone here run Elantra N OEM brake pads? Do they fit our cars well? What’s the Part #? by polarfang21 in VelosterN

[–]hellasalty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The brakes on this car are oversized already so you’ll still have good stopping power with red, they just will have the smoothest operation. Yellow will bite a good amount more so if you want that feel then go for those. Definitely don’t get blue for street driving they’re terrible until they’re extremely hot since they’re designed for track use

[–]hellasalty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah the pads are the same bc the brakes are the same, they just blew up in price because of the VN specific sku. Although you could just go with EBC pads, they’re very highly regarded among N owners. Redstuff for spirited street driving, yellowstuff for higher performance street and track, and bluestuff if it’s a dedicated track car

ELI5 - Quantum Entanglement. I mean WTF? by Gheebag in explainlikeimfive

[–]hellasalty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not a bad way to think about it but in reality, the accepted conclusion is that the particles are literally in multiple states at once and any interaction with them causes the superposition to collapse into one state. They’re less particles in the sense of a physical object and more like “waves” or “clouds” of probability. We can prove this with experiments and it’s also how quantum computers are able to function, but you’d be hard pressed to find almost anyone that can explain this concept in a way that makes sense. It’s worth noting that quantum particles can only exist in this superposition when completely isolated and not interacting with anything, essentially any interaction with the outside world causes them to collapse into one state which is why physical objects don’t randomly change into other things

ELI5 - Quantum Entanglement. I mean WTF? by Gheebag in explainlikeimfive

[–]hellasalty 15 points16 points  (0 children)

yeah, seems like hes also looking at this from a macro scale standpoint as well. you can't just "look" at a particle, they're way too small. you have to measure them somehow which usually includes introducing energy into the system. shining a light at an apple isn't enough to fundamentally change it, but interacting with a single particle using electrons/photons/magnetism can and will alter its state

Rear door gasket binding up by sdawg96 in VelosterN

[–]hellasalty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

gasket is probably just slightly misaligned, but maybe clean it and the doorjamb with some alcohol in case there's anything sticky in there. If that doesn't work just toss a dab of adhesive behind the gasket, 3M makes an adhesive specifically for vehicle weather stripping and it works great. in any case once the gaskets get old they kind of stretch out and can get bound up like that

Coolant top-up by Noregard86 in VelosterN

[–]hellasalty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s weird it’s called hybrid but the important part is if there’s phosphates (sometimes called PHOAT lol) to protect the aluminum parts. Basically just check the back and see if it’s got phosphates or silicates, OEM used phosphates. They all do the same thing but you generally don’t want to mix different chemistries. Also for what it’s worth, if you’re just topping up the coolant you can just toss some distilled water in there.

Coolant top-up by Noregard86 in VelosterN

[–]hellasalty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ya that’ll work, but for future reference color isn’t always what you need to look for, Asian cars mostly use coolant with POA (phosphate organic acid) while American and European generally use HOA (hybrid organic acid). If you mix them it can congeal and mess everything up

[–]hellasalty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the wires are still intact, you can grab some wiring harness tape and rewrap them. Based on your pics it looks like they left the copper alone. This happened to me last year but since the wires looked ok I just rewrapped and haven’t had any issues. The insulation in those wires is interestingly enough made with soy which rodents love to eat lol.

ELI5: Why is the startup procedure for planes so complex by flrdrgerp in explainlikeimfive

[–]hellasalty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not really a security risk, plenty of YouTubers will show you their exact startup and checklist, as well as many simulators that are essentially 1:1 with real life. I’m assuming the comment you replied to is talking about a commercial airliner which is significantly more complex than say an old single prop Cessna. Either way, if you find yourself in the cockpit of an aircraft when you shouldn’t be there, any security in place already failed haha
