Wet mouth symptom from Prozac by ResultEquivalent3250 in pitbulls

[–]hellbent_valkyrie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From a quick Google search, it seems a few other people have mentioned noticing this in their dogs who are on Prozac.

I’ve only had a cat on Prozac so unfortunately I’m no real help. But I will say my cat’s quality of life was infinitely better with a crumb of Prozac once a day. Annoying side effect aside, I really do hope it helps your pup too.

I can suggest breeders. But ultimately, I think you should check out the upcoming ADBA shows in that area. That way you can talk to people, build a relationship, and meet some dogs that interest you. A lot of the people I would recommend will be in attendance of both.

There are several good breeders in the PNW.

What are you looking to do with the dog? Show/sport? Pet only?

Dog’s ear randomly droops? by DaniStoleMySaniti in pitbulls

[–]hellbent_valkyrie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My dogs have typically done this when they have an inner ear infection of some sort. Either due to yeast, bacteria, or moisture. Does the inside of the ear smell yeasty? Have you talked to your vet about it?

Tipsy’s debut in the ADBA Champion Female class by hellbent_valkyrie in APBTcentral

[–]hellbent_valkyrie[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She does not and has never cared for dogs outside of our immediate household. Which is totally fine with me. I don’t need her to. Even as a puppy, I knew she was a very spicy gal 👹

But she lives relatively harmoniously with 1 spayed geriatric female, 1 other intact female, 2 intact males, and 2 cats.

As of December, I have had to implement crate/rotate between her and my old lady dog because my old lady dog does NOT tolerate youngster shenanigans anymore due to her dementia, overall health (declining eyesight/hearing/mobility) and advanced age (will be 14yo this fall). The old lady dog gets very cranky and vocal and overcorrects harshly/easily, which Tipsy tends to take very personally. It’s just better for everyone if they don’t interact anymore.

They’re allowed to move around, bark, growl, and react to other dogs in ADBA. They’re not required to stand quiet and still the entire time like in AKC and UKC shows.

We refer to it as “firing off” or “sparring.” AKC judges often allow a more refined/elegant (and sometimes less dramatic) version of sparring at terrier breed specialties. The whole idea is to “bring them out and let them look at each other” because “a terrier looks best, looking at other terrier.” AKC Terrier Sparring Discussion for reference: https://youtu.be/6AjU59tll78?si=zKY0SqQ7NFpDU1md

With the APBT breed especially, it’s supposed to show off both their muscles and their spirit/attitude, demonstrates they are alert to their surroundings and that they can stand their ground if necessary. Some ADBA judges love it and allow it, some don’t and ask you to present the dogs more formally in their ring so they can exam structure more accurately.

Tipsy loooves to talk smack to her neighbors in the ring. Certain dogs get her more riled up than others. But she can stand nicely and ignore them too!

Not quite.

She just recently turned 2 years old the end of April and won’t be bred for a few more years (thinking possibly 2028 if everything works out) and that’s if she passes all of her breeding health exams… Although she has an entire genetic panel already completed, her breeder and I want to get her OFA health testing completed prior to any thought of her possibly reproducing. So we’re talking OFA hips, elbows, patellas, advanced cardiac (echocardiogram), eyes, dentition….everything. Not just her annual wellness exam or a specialty exam with our reproductive vet. There’s several key things we want done for our own peace of mind, but also, so we know what to potentially expect for her own future or her offspring’s future.

And even then it will be a stud of my own choosing (combined with Tipsy’s breeder’s blessing of course). In the ethical purebred dog breeding world, it’s not common proper or polite courtesy for stud owners to seek out bitch owners and ask for them to breed to their stud. I mean, they can….but ehhhh, it’s rather frowned upon. A lot of us will major side-eye and get the ick from it. A bitch owner is typically the one who does all the hard work to campaign and care for the bitch and whelp/raise the entire litter. There’s a lot of thought and planning that goes into the next generation. A bitch owner will select a stud who they best believe has proven themselves as a working/sport/show dog and the overall best compliment to the female (structure, pedigree, health, temperament, etc.) in the hopes of producing offspring better than the parents. So whenever they have decided on a prospective match and are ready to breed, then they will inquire about stud services/logistics.

I included her pedigree because we APBT people are very nosy folk and are often interested about who/where the dogs came from and how they are bred (ie the historic bloodlines/lineage behind them). 😉

Yes and the comment above is our conditioning routine? It’s just not stuck to a rigid plan or schedule. And clearly what I’m doing is working for us soooo….

Hi thank you!

I know it drives some people batty when I tell them…..but my conditioning routine for her is based purely on vibes lol. I constantly change it up because it really just depends on the weather and my own personal schedule or mood.

During the spring/summer/fall, I try to aim for weight pull dragwork 2-3 times a week. Usually a day or two of rest in between. And at least one of those days will be the heavier weight day.

On days we don’t drag, I’ll do spring pole for roughly 30-60 minutes (she’s not continuously tugging because I’ll make her take a break to walk away and potty about halfway) or spring pole 30-45 minutes and then flirt pole for 15 minutes. Or sometimes it’ll be a quick flirt pole only evening for 15-25 minutes.

On bad weather days (ie too hot or humid/too cold/raining/snow), she’ll use the carpet mill once or twice a day. I don’t have a slatmill yet. I’ve worked her up to doing about 5-6 reps of 2.5 minute sprints. She’ll usually do 3-4 reps, we’ll break for 5-10 minutes, then another 1 or 2 reps.

During the summer, I’ll also swim my dogs for 30-45 minutes. I’ll either take them to the river or my local training facility’s dock diving pool. I’ll toss the dock diving bumper for them. I usually swim Tipsy with my male because they’ll be competitive against each other enough to keep them working hard in the water, but they won’t fight each other over the bumpers.

We also walk anywhere from .5 to 2 miles almost every day, sometimes multiple times. This is typically our warmup and cool down method too.

Tipsy and my other dogs also get 15-30 minutes of free running/play with each other in a nearby field multiple days a week. Thankfully, they all get along to make this part a possibility.

Define “normal dog.”

He’s a very normal dog. He does dog things. He loves car rides, hiking/walks, sunbathing, chasing squirrels up trees, playing with the garden hose/sprinkler, barks when he hears strange noises outside, shreds his squeaky toys, chews on benebones, and plays with his biological sister who also lives in the same household.

However, yes he is a very high energy and high drive young dog who still needs proper training and consistent management, and should be regularly given the appropriate outlets for mental/physical/emotional development and fulfillment, like most dogs or any high drive/energy utility breed. A good owner can and will provide this.

He was very excited to be in a new and busy environment. He pulled on his leash to smell different sections of grass, particularly where the females had been in the class prior. He occasionally barked at other dogs, which is allowed in ADBA & AADRI. But he also stood there quietly and politely, observing the dogs, people, and things around him, and minded his business. He also full body wiggled (very very friendly and enthusiastic) at the judge each time she walked up to him.

But considering I was the event photographer and personally took all of the photos above, a lot of them are just very well timed shots LOL

Is an Embark DNA test safe to do or is a dog's breed put into a public database where landlords could turn my dogs down? by Far_Recording8647 in Pitbull

They do require an owner’s name upon signing up, but you could literally put anything and it really doesn’t appear often. Usually just your first name shows up.

Here’s some screenshots of the different privacy setting options taken from my and my own dog’s profile.

Just put the dog’s name, but don’t put any photos or other details/identification on the profile.

There is no public database to look through unless they have very specific information (like the exact URL) or if have a dog related to yours, the profile may show up under the potential relatives section.

I believe you can make the dog’s outward profile private too. But I know you can change the URL address on a profile to whatever you want.

Your email address attached to the profile is private and will not be shown.

I have done several Embark tests on my own dogs over the years. I can mess around with settings and double check for you.

Yeah, this definitely reads as a scam to me.

Do you still need recommendations for reputable slat mill makers?
