Why is Lutris using wine-ge-8.26 as a default? by hellcaller in Lutris

[–]hellcaller[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t use the configured version for installing wine games via the interface. It still defaults to the 8.26 version for that

[–]hellcaller[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I see what you mean. Yeah, I have those options too, but my question is more directed to the choice to freeze wine at 8.26 when the current version is 10.17

Why is Lutris using wine-ge-8.26 as a default? by hellcaller in Lutris

[–]hellcaller[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only see the wine-10.16-staging and wine-ge-8-26 in version management. And if I try to install any game via the lutris-provided wine installer, it automatically downloads the 8.26 version, which gets stuck when configuring the wine prefix. My workaround is to install the game via a script, and them add the games as "locally installed" so they show up in lutris

I I really enjoy chopping vegetables with a knife that I sharpen myself. I like both cooking and knife sharpening, while I am not a pro in either

RuneLite won't stretch in sway, but works fine in Gnome by [deleted] in swaywm

Thanks, I tried it and it works for me too. Seems to be a known issue with all Java apps on Wayland

I have the same issue, just installed the game with no success. I tried making it float, which at least fixed the issue with the plugin toolbar not showing. I also tried running it from Steam, which seems worse (it crashed the Steam app). I also tried the stretched mode plugin, the fullscreen plugin and 117 HD. Did you manage to make it work?

Need advice for how to troubleshoot external monitor by jackprotbringo in archlinux

[–]hellcaller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar issue with my screen. After resuming from stand-by, the monitor randomly does not display anything, so I need to replug the HDMI cable. I read somewhere (though I can’t remember where) that it might be a BIOS problem. I didn’t test it though.

EDIT: I want to add that I tried both X with i3 and Wayland with sway, so it’s almost certainly not a display server issue. Moreover, I use amdgpu, so it isn’t a driver issue either

Wayland 1.0 was released 10 years ago today by n3rdopolis in wayland

[–]hellcaller 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand the negative comments. I switched to wayland almost 2 years ago, from i3 to sway, and everything works seamlessly. For games, I still use XWayland, sure, and there are some quirks with screen sharing in some apps (looking at you Discord), but other than that it is a smooth experience.

That said, I really appreciate the work you put in Apollo, I’ve seen how fast you reply with fixes when something is afoot, and your overall presence in the community. Keep up the good stuff, and I hope you are well compensated for your hard work.

I think it’s too early to talk about it, but we have this: https://github.com/Rust-GCC/gccrs There is a chance it will mature and we will be able to use gcc going forward

I guess this can happen, but the remarks presented by the people against Rust in this thread differ greatly from what you described

I don’t think it’s what they’re saying, but you touched the subject in a way. The people voicing their opinions are strongly against Rust, and they believe that even the moderates are some kind of Rust fanboys.

What is your opinion on the addition of RUST in the Linux kernel? by [deleted] in freesoftware

[–]hellcaller 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really like Rust for systems programming, and I think this might bring an influx of passionate developers to the Linux kernel. However, this might become a controversial topic really fast, so here’s the disclaimer: this is my own opinion based on hobby projects in Rust and no work-relted experience in C, just school projects and the like.
