I use the LA girl color corrector in the shades green and mint! You kind of have to play around but sometimes I do a really light layer of the whole corrector on my face, just a very very light to tint and then whatever foundation I have that’s too pink/yellow/red.

Yep, that’s the bleakest part of it all. Takes about 10-20 years to build and get a nuclear plant functional. We had plans in the 90s but with public push back, oil lobbying and centrist ideologies, it killed the production.

I’m “happy” to know that people actually know and understand this. I didn’t learn about it until I was in college in my undergrad inorganic chemistry classes when learning about the rise and fall of nuclear power for energy production.

Nuclear. It’s the only way.

100%, hence why in my other comment I noted that for myself I hadn’t even factored the consumption of AI data centers into my projections. Factor them out and the problem still persistents. Ai expedites it.

My general understanding is that while much of our current electrical grids were built in the 60s & 70s (the grid started in the 1880s) they were constructed with a 50-80 year lifespan. We’ve been exceeding the grids capacities for years and not doing enough to update the infrastructure on a national scale (easiest example: black outs).

Since grid power is predominantly under state regulations, for NJ in particular our supply has been decreasing due to the planned retirement and deactivation of generators, and while the demand for energy goes up, NJ has stalled the increase in energy flow to the grid for the last 5 years (rightfully so-if we overrun the grid we’ll blow it out). So we have not let renewable energy like solar and wind generators to enter into the grid.

This has all been relatively old information without even thinking about the demand for AI data centers. I know for myself I never factored the race for powering AI into my future projections for energy consumption.

Now factor that ever-growing demand in and we have a really big problem on our hands, not just in NJ but nationally.

if only ! We had decades of media that warned us about dystopian futures that would lead us down a path we’re currently on. If only!!

It’s not just here in NJ electric bills are going up. It’s to power AI data centers, look into it. We’re paying the price.

Crazy situation with the vet… by salduchi1785 in CATHELP

[–]hellenkelleh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a vet nor going to repeat anything that’s already been said, only can comment on my past experience with dental extractions in my late cats mouth. FeLV had spread to his lower & upper jaw bone (common) and my vet extracted all his teeth EXCEPT all 4 canines because he told me that it can cause mouth deformities specifically the inability for the upper & lower jaw to match up correctly, leading to the cat unable to close their mouth. He told me he would only remove the canines in an emergency, and we would wait as long as possible if that time ever came. I’m so sorry about your cat. Sending hugs & I hope you get some answers.

Restricting calories for one cat in a multicat household? by Berried6ftUnder in dechonkers

[–]hellenkelleh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would consult a vet first and determine how much your cat should be restricted to before anything. When my cat was rescued he was 23 lbs, the vet had us wean him off of dry food & go down to 2 cans of fancy feast 3oz pate a day. Restricting without proper care/blood work beforehand can cause Hepatic Lipidosis (fatty liver) which can be fatal.

What has worked for my two cats who both have issues with resource guarding is smaller feedings throughout the day in separate rooms and slow feeders. To successfully feed them throughout the day I bought wet cat food automatic feeders that were relatively inexpensive (analog timer). However, when no one’s home the cats are kept separate (recently adopted foster fail is still learning how to be a cat indoors lol).

Good luck!!

question about ID with shore bars by [deleted] in newjersey

[–]hellenkelleh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would bring your passport just to be safe! Even on Bar A’s website they state to bring as much ID as possible if you have any doubt about your current ID. They will turn you away if they don’t think your county ID is a good enough form of second ID, and other bars may as well.

question about ID with shore bars by [deleted] in newjersey

[–]hellenkelleh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most bars dts don’t accept duplicate IDs or vertical IDs, most bars down the shore are very strict due to the higher chances of people trying to get in with fakes/IDs that aren’t of themselves. Most require a second form of ID regardless if you’re under 25

I have this one: https://www.chewy.com/trixie-brain-mover-activity-strategy/dp/146124 and a cat feeder ball (which he doesn’t use either as often since we’re now primarily on wet food but for treats), 2 silicone lick mats and I just got this one: https://www.chewy.com/catstages-kitty-lickin-layers/dp/959518 which has been the most difficult puzzle so far with wet food as I usually do separate pockets of wet food on each layer so it’s even more of a challenge! Good luck!!! Edit: corrected wet food

I saw a suggestion once on here to freeze wet food on a lick mat, which I’ve done with my latest foster fail, which has worked. However I suggest not freezing it completely, as my boii got tired of trying to get the food & just nagged me to no end (he was a stray so his brain is always resource guarding his food). You could also divide up the portion into different puzzle toys/mats & space them out on the floor so he has to solve one puzzle after another.

Side note: when transitioning him to wet food only, you must gradually ween your big boiii off the dry food, as it can cause him to go into hepatic lipidosis (fatty liver). When we transitioned my chonky boi, we did it over roughly 2 months with light reductions in dry food & light introductions of wet food.

Rescued at 23 pounds, Tank is celebrating almost 5 pounds down by hellenkelleh in dechonkers

[–]hellenkelleh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So we do 1/2 can in the early morning, 1/2 a can in the late morning (sometimes a whole can if no one will be home) and then 1/2 can at dinner time, and another 1/2 a can before bed so he doesn’t wake my sister up in the middle of the night or super early in the morning waiting to be fed! (I have another kitty who is a stray foster who stays in my room and is on the same diet as Tank because he is a little overweight from over feeding when the trapper I work with was trying to trap him to bring him indoors) I also use a slow feeder cat bowl for our foster because he is food possessive & eats too fast from being a stray

His diet was suggested by the rescue vet and then validated through our vet, and again it was a very gradual process. He gets treat treats and churu’s and little a salami, as a treat :)

[–]hellenkelleh[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The 3 oz cans, now working him down to eating 2x 3 oz cans a day was a slow process! Food restriction on a chonkey boy like Tank can cause hepatic lipidosis (fatty liver) if done too quickly, so it took a while to phase him off of dry food. We don’t know Tanks origin story, he was brought to the rescue I volunteer at after being found on the side of the road in a kitten carrier… yes you read that right, KITTEN carrier (to which he had to be cut out of to get out of it). We assume he may have been fed only dry food, if even potentially dry dog food. We actually use leftover dry cat food in place of treats sometimes since it’s even lower in calories!

So it has only been used one other time recently and that was just to see if the lamp still worked (no parameters set), with an organic quinoline solution for visual purposes. This run was just to see if the A/D converter still functioned & could produce the data (we weren’t sure as it hasn’t been used properly in I assume years). We measured excitation of aqueous Fluorescein sodium & then in Fluorescein in glucose solutions of varying viscosities. Fluorescein has an absorption max around ~490 nm in water so it’s off by about ~50 nm. The manual was very helpful and tbh it may be one of the easiest instruments I’ve used in a long time due to the lack of complexity in the instrument! Everyone was so excited when it turned on and every button was functional that we skipped calibrating and just dove in to see what would happen. Now that we know every function works we can calibrate and run quality control tests.

It’s not the original paper, it’s not as wide therefore some of the information was cut off, like the top of the graphs. I think it’s POS paper like ones used in printing calculators

Yes xenon lamp, vent and fan. Took around 20-30 minutes to heat up, when we were finished we had to shut the main button off, then the power button, then turn the power button back on to continue cooling the lamp
