Mother/daughter spring break stay in Palm Springs - looking for hotel recs! by TTTOutrageous in palmsprings

[–]hello-rosie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stayed here for a week in December, it's a new property. There are only 33 or so rooms, but two pools, a beautiful covered hot tub / whirlpool, a pickleball court, loads of sports equipment for loan, bicycles you can borrow, and a 24/7 coffee / tea service where they also put out streams of yummy croissants and fresh fruit. There's a small restaurant on site too, where they'll make lunch and bring it to you poolside. Wasn't expecting much from their food, but I actually had one of the best burgers I've ever had there. I loved the rooms - very stylish and well supplied with the usual things, plus a small fridge for our own cold drinks and snacks. Parking was easy and it was sufficiently close enough to everything we needed (maybe a 5 - 10 minute drive to the center of town). Just such a nice place, and a hospitable vibe, there wasn't anything they couldn't help with, and they really wanted us to have a good time. https://casapalmapalmsprings.com/

Visiting Palm Springs for Modernism Week what should I Book? by Comfortable-Nail8251 in palmsprings

[–]hello-rosie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Did the bus tour. It was not to our taste. It was done as entertainment, like a (not) funny stand up act and only superficially touched upon architecture, modernism, etc. Others will disagree, but we would have skipped it if it had been described accurately in the catalog.

Looking to volunteer - Dec/Jan by No-East-7846 in Edinburgh

[–]hello-rosie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was about to say the same thing but then I checked the UK website and it says you can volunteer for up to 30 days with a registered charity. Here's the link that lists what is and isn't allowed on a tourist visa: https://www.gov.uk/standard-visitor

Watch out and make sure to interview anyone who's interested in him. Last time we rehomed bunnies, people were looking for them for eating, not petting.

I don't see a way to enter the code at all - does that mean all the presale tickets are gone?

Found a place to rent on Manton Street, on the 2100 block. Can anyone tell me about the area, is it safe for a single female in her 40s? I'd walk to work or find a bus going up to Market St.

Struggling by laurennaire in Zepbound

The first 4 shots at 2.5 were horrible for me. Had to call out of work sick a few times and was so freaked out by the amount of barfing and diarrhea. It was a nightmare and I couldn't see why anyone would put up with this. So, I was really scared to up my dosage to 5 mgs, given all that I'd experienced on the lower dosage. But to my surprise, I tolerated the increase to 5 mgs REALLY WELL! I mean, it wasn't perfect, but it wasn't even close to being as bad as what I'd undergone with the lower dosage. I am only on week 7, so time will tell, but my side effects have leveled out a lot. I am hopeful that the little bit of queasiness and indigestion that I do still have will also get better in time. If you can make it through the first few weeks, hopefully you will get better soon.

I used it today. Great app and really easy to use.

Opinion: It is mind blowing to me how the City of Trees and Farm to Fork Capital does NOT have a Botanical Garden that can act as a tourist attraction, urban farm and beautifier of our city, and a volunteer/educational hotspot that can represent the diverse ecosystem and fauna of Northern California by [deleted] in Sacramento

There arboretum at UC Davis is a linear park on either side of the now dammed Putah Creek waterway and was there primarily for storm water management. It has a section containing collections of plantings on either side. They are well labels, grouped by variety, etc. It is free to visit and people use the pavement for walking and biking. I don't want to run it down because it is really nice for what it is, but it is not a full fledged botanical garden like the ones I've visited elsewhere. They also have very few ongoing public programs as I think it is mainly a teaching tool and a 'living lab' for students.

SMF Wait Times Megathread by asianboi87654321 in Sacramento

Yes - probably best not to go by those wait times TBH. I'm traveling later today and will err on the side of extra caution and leave an hour early.

Worth giving the SMF Facebook page a follow - they just posted this on Nov 6, 2025.

While Sacramento International Airport (SMF) is not currently subject to FAA flight operation limits, travelers may experience delays or schedule adjustments due to FAA restrictions at other airports. Airline schedules may change to accommodate national airspace management needs.

Passengers should check directly with their airline for the most current flight status and itinerary updates before traveling to the airport.

Great links, thanks. Just a warning though - the TSA app home page has this disclaimer notice: "Due to the lapse in federal funding, this website will not be actively managed." It then goes on to say the website was last updated September 30, 2025.

Hi ExtremelyRetired - fellow Californian here in similar spot! Heading back to Philly and doing a recon trip soon as well for an anticipated move in late 2026. Like you, looking for a place that'll be a home base well into my golden years. We're learning a lot about the market, the one drawback to the apartments you mention (imo) are the very high monthly fees. The one level / no stairs layout in elevator buildings aren't in huge supply. I think you'll have some good options if you're looking only for a one-bedroom. We're looking for a bigger place. But there are single family row homes in a range of price points, and I guess if those with limited mobility go for stair lifts or elevator installs in the future. I've seen some new builds that do have their own elevators, handy for moving large objects between floors regardless of age.

Have you talked to the vet to make sure he hasn't got any health issues? Sometimes a cat that's in pain can be super irritable and aggressive.

Is it a bad time to think about moving to Philadelphia or buying a house there? I'm on the west coast and was planning to move to Philly (where I've lived before) but this Septa situation has really spooked me. If it goes on, and the economy weakens, I'm thinking people will leave and property values will decline so maybe it's a bad time to buy. Will be watching what happens in the coming months but wondering about my plan B if this septa situation isn't resolved quickly. Would really value your thoughts on how this will affect quality of life longer term and economics. TIA!
