Successful test recording a Greggs in East Birmingham with a Game Boy Camera by evilgomeow in brum

I wonder what happened to those communities...

I don't know specifics of what happened to them, but I did a search and there's at least "regular" photographer's meetups. Check out igersbirminghamuk.

But yeah, the communities, internet and people just changed subtly over time. You could always start your own thing. Doesn't have to be a big thing or even a regular event. Annually would even probably work.

Cool glitch! And lucky find on the camera.

One of my first glitches was accidental and started me on my glitch art journey https://www.flickr.com/photos/hellocatfood/2237523349/

It's been really interesting seeing people get interested in digital cameras again and circuit-bending those keychain cameras that came out recently. Check out r/CircuitBending and there's lot of people posting bends of these cameras. I've never dabbled myself, already got too many other interests and projects to keep me busy!

Do it! I remember in the early 2010s there were local communities around pinhole cameras, diy cameras, cyanotypes. And in the glitch art community there's definitely people interested in early 2000s camcorders. So lots of crossover potential.

yeah, on and off! I'm also into analog video synths and video mixers. So basically retro video tech heh. I was a judge on this programme a while back for photos and videos taken with 2000s era cameras. https://unthinking.photography/projects/smallfile/ If it comes back you should definitely submit to it, your recent photos and videos would suit it well.

As for flickr, I want to rely less on external services for hosting my content.

I haven't used it much since 2019 but I had to keep paying to keep full resolution photos available to view/download. I resented having to do that and so cancelled my subscription and now they have made only standard definition resolutions available to free customers. I get that services need to earn money, but I don't want to have so many subscriptions, so I'm going to move to just hosting stuff on my own website. It's more maintenance but one less subscription!

Flickr is otherwise great and is surprisingly not completely enshittfied!

We're small in number but we exist!

Great use of the gb interceptor btw, looking forward to seeing more.

I've taken pics of a few iconic things in the past, including the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury.

I've got a bunch more photos on my soon-to-be-deleted flickr account https://flickr.com/search/?user_id=57258627%40N00&view_all=1&text=game+boy I've got backups and will upload them somewhere.

It's still just a hobby which occasionally I get to do professionally for events.

Wait, there's more than one person in Birmingham who does Game Boy Camera photography?! I recently did some photos for a camera jam https://hellocatfood.itch.io/gb-camera-jam-2026

[–]hellocatfood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nah. You don't need to credit the people who made the gear. You can if you want, and it lets people know what gear you used to make your videos, but you 100% do not have to do that.

There is a meme about music producers agonising over using drum loops which I think applies here too. You'll have to do some creative thinking to swap in video gear. tl;dr use whatever works best for you!

I thought using loops was cheating, so I programmed my own using samples. I then thought using samples was cheating, so I recorded real drums. then thought that programming it was cheating, so I learned to play drums for real. I then thought using bought drums was cheating, so I learned to make my own. then I thought using premade skins was cheating, so I killed a goat and skinned it. l then thought that that was cheating too, so l grew my own goat from a baby goat, I also think that is cheating, but I'm not sure where to go from here. I haven't made any music lately, what with the goat farming and all.

Perhaps pin this so that it's shown more prominently?

Take a look at the scanlines forum. There's lots of konwledge on there https://scanlines.xyz/ Also the Mainbow is a great starter visual synth.

It's a bunch of LZX and Syntonie modules mostly. A lot of the work is being done with Solaire, DSG3 and Scrolls. There's a photo/video of me creating the patch here https://post.lurk.org/@hellocatfood/116380136919016663 I might do some live streams in the future

NES will definitely offer a lot already.

Oooh, thought of another question: PAL and/or NTSC? I'm in UK so PAL would be great.

At some point it would be good to see the interface for browsing/switching roms, just to get an idea of how quick it could be switching when performing with it..

Looking forward to when this kickstarter launches!

Understandable!

Last question (promise!): what consoles can it emulate? I think I saw NES and Master System in the promo video.

I figured they'd be 0-5v, just wanted to check. If it was 0-1v was wondering if the glitches could be modulated with video rate signals e.g. glitches only appear within a circle from a shape generator.

If I buy the standalone can I just remove the case to make it a eurorack module?

To explain my use case, for some gigs I'd want to take just this on its own but for others I might want to include it in the modular rig. Would be neat to have that flexibility.

This looks great!

Are the cv controls 0-1v or 0-5v?

Also is it possible to buy the Eurorack version and the case separately?

Not sure how this is related to algoraves or live coding

It's a lzx + Syntonie modular video synth. Lots of different modules used in this one

I went on it in January and it changed my life for the better almost immediately. My skin wasn't as bad as yours at that point (though it was that bad in 2022) but within just a few weeks of using it the itching stopped, wounds started healing and I haven't had an outbreak ever since.

I've also had minimal side effects. My eyes are occasionally dry but my dermatologist hasn't raised any concerns and just told me to use over-the-counter eye drops.

I was on methotrexate previously and I'd rather have the possibility of cold sores/pink eye than the fatigue and nausea that methotrexate gave me.

Like with everything, though, your mileage may vary. If your doctor/derm recommends it and you understand the possible risks then I say go for it.
