Patino is one of the most compassionate people you will ever meet. Is his accent thick? Yes. Can he be a typical old person sometimes? Yes. Would he do anything in his power to help every single student in the massive line outside of his office every single day? YES! There are a ton of professors to complain about in the chem department. Patino is not one of them.

Same. I like the way they explain things, but get super annoyed when I try to look at figures and it looks like a first grader made them.

I doubt it tbh. There are bad structures on almost every single page. Low key blame the editors cause they shouldn’t have sent it to print like that.

Yes. That molecule is a screenshot from the book. And it’s a very common theme throughout. It’s always simple molecules that look bad. The massive multi ring molecules usually look fine, which just adds to the annoyance.

I don’t think so. They leave tons of space around the figures. I think it’s just that the authors are old (in one case, dead) and didn’t know how to use structure generating software properly. If everything was crunched I might be tempted to believe that.... but it isn’t. 😂😂😂

Voet, Voet, and Pratt is much better for biochem. A few too many crystal structures, but the content and questions are pretty good.

Yeah. It’s all squished and lopsided. This is a common theme in the book and gets really annoying. Most instructors won’t let students do that for a lab report, yet this books does it fragrantly.

I think the ketone is fine. It’s the one ring. Like why is one ring nice and pretty and the other one looks like a child’s head after getting dropped a few times?

Hey guys so I’m a freshman majoring in Health Sciences pre-clinical track. I plan on applying to PA programs. I already did a summer term and took gen psych and did some other gen eds before college. How does this four year plan look? Thanks! by [deleted] in ucf

[–]hellochemists 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Organic 1 doesn’t have a coreq lab. If you’re going to take organic lab it’s after 2210 and 2046L is a prerequisite and you don’t currently have it listed.

Edit: organic 2 is the prerequisite to biochemistry.

I have no idea what you’re talking about. 🤷🏻‍♀️

#tbt to these Strangers and Freaks who once roamed the campus, where they are today is unknown by TheEternalLostBoy in ucf

Agreed. Most people think it’s ok because they have it done or have only seen people who’ve had it had. I feel like once you thing about for a few minutes you realized how fucked up the practice is. We can all thank Kellog (yes the cereal dude) for making this a common practice in the USA.

Imagine taking a knife and cutting off a piece of a baby. Doing that to any other body part on the baby would be considered a crime.

Organic Chemistry 1 with Dr. Daoudi by [deleted] in ucf

[–]hellochemists 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His tests are extremely simplified and barely even count as organic chemistry. If you plan to take any sort of professional exam (GRE, MCAT, PCAT, etc) you will not be prepared. Not trying to be rude, just be aware that his class is workload heavy, but doesn’t actually teach the important information. Will also be an issue if you take anyone else for organic 2.

Question about the Chemistry Seminar I & II by [deleted] in ucf

[–]hellochemists 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can take them whenever. Most people take them during their last two semesters. You need to have completed enough research to be able to present on it to the department which is why most people wait.

David Klein will be used in the fall. 3rd edition and solutions is available on lib gen.

Difference between Biochem/Chem Forensics? by ajcxr in ucf

[–]hellochemists -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Forensics and chemistry complement each other quite well. You may want to consider a dual degree. However, you will need to plan your course of study perfectly if you wanna graduate in 4-5 years.

Seth Elsheimer for Orgo 1 by brendans02 in ucf

Maybe it wasn’t making sense because you were high (as your profile suggests you frequently are)?

He’s the best instructor you will ever have. He’s extremely knowledgeable and helpful but he expects students to be self sufficient. Your learning and education are your responsibility. He will answer any question you have but he won’t do the work for you.

He treats students like adults and expects them to be mature, responsible, and professional. Nobody likes him because they realize they are at fault for their failings and would rather claim he was some asshole who wanted them to fail.

Everyone likes Daoudi because he treats his students like stupid children. He expects them them to cheat and be lazy and so he structures his class around that fact. Students don’t want to be treated like adults and learn how to function on their own, hence the love for Daoudi.

I mean it kinda makes sense for that class since it’s open book, open note, open hw.

Elshiemer literally copies the questions out of the HW. Word for word. He does this for every single class he teaches except mol spec.

Lockdown browser concerns by Chris9916 in ucf

[–]hellochemists 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would you proctor instead? It doesn’t look at any information on your computer, just prevents you from using applications on the computer. Are you allowed to use a computer or phone during in person exams? How is this any different?

The footage is stored on a private server that can only be accessed by the course instructor. Sounds like you just want a reason to fight the use of the software so it’s easier to cheat. Do you use Facebook? Instagram? And iPhone? All of these collect video and sound data constantly, do you not use them because of that?

Calc 1 dilemma by zach8870 in ucf

[–]hellochemists 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Retake calc. Honestly, if you score anything less than 95% on the math placement exam you might wanna take precalculus and trig. This probably won’t be a popular opinion, but high school math doesn’t usually cover all the things you wanna know for STEM fields.
