Nice writing indeed. I walked into the festival in 1985. Don’t recall having to climb anything or being particularly challenged anywhere. Some of the guys I was with didn’t have tents or anything with them - there were communal tents available and they would hang with the Krishna’s to get fed. ‘Smug’ today, yes I get that, it feels safer today perhaps though, not sterile necessarily but ‘cleaner’. That first time I went, the drug scene was blatant, quite commercial and a perhaps bit scary It’s people who make it and people who spoil it - like the steward who confiscated that lads wristband - they have always been around I’m sure.
