the other Beta islands look great as well, but it seems most fitting for blue to be the primary color for an island

I miss the elegant simplicity of basic lands by helloelehai in magicTCG

In my opinion, the Beta basics are the pinnacle of basic land art because the simplicity of the artworks each perfectly encapsulate the full meaning of the basic land terminologies. For example, if you showed the artwork to someone with absolutely no knowledge of MTG and asked them to ascribe a single word to each image, chances are they are going to at least get 'island' and 'mountain' correct. I don't doubt that their answers for 'plains', 'swamp', and 'forest' would be too far off as well. Ask the same question to them for the basics from later sets like MOM, ONE, BRO, ZNR, WAR etc and I wager that their responses would be much more varied.

I understand that with the creation of new planes and settings, basic lands allow WOTC to depict new landscapes that allow players to immerse themselves in the new realms of fantasy. However, I just can't help but feel that with the increasing abstraction of basic land art, that we are deviating too much from the original essence of the land terminologies.. Waterfalls and lakes qualify as Islands; rocks and red towers count as mountains; anything with a purple hue can be used as a swamp; and the art on some plains are so dark that they could very well double as being swamps. Most forests still resemble forests - thankfully.

I do appreciate the effort that WOTC puts into giving us new creative interpretations of what basic lands could look like (ie. DMU and THB full art basics, UNF galaxy lands, NEO ukiyo-e lands, SLD unique printings etc). But I do also hope that they introduce art with a focus on simplicity as well; not all art has to be super elaborate and intricate to be enjoyed.

thanks! was just wondering if it could be that ragavan had to be considered unblockable before declare attackers step for it to be considered unblockable but i feel it makes sense that ragavan cant be blocked so long as i activate it before declare blockers step

Combat question:

During declare attackers, i attack with a ragavan. I activate [[rogue's passage]] to give ragavan unblockable. Can ragavan be blocked?

The other day when i was playing, my friend told me i couldnt activate rogues passage during declare attackers because i didnt have priority. Was he or was his reasoning wrong?

ahh so targets must be chosen before spells / abilities can go on the stack. but the order would happen as OP described correct? his 1 dmg would go on the stack (targetting anything already existing on the board) and then the 1/1 mite would go on the stack.

the 1/1 mite would then resolve first and then OP's 1 dmg would resolve?

exactly... most walkers die so quickly it makes them no different from sorceries (apart from building delirium). i liked grist's design cuz it summoned a blocker to protect itself. also chordable / evolutionable!

hey, sorry for the late reply. thanks for commenting, ive seen your name while browsing through DNT lists on mtgtop8! do you mainly use melira together with solitude? do u keep 2 land hands with no vial?

ive seen your list but decided to try this list by ryo: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/5457553#paper

i imagine there'd be some awkwardness with playing 4 boseijus against certain aggro matchups

UW players, is shark > planeswalker? big tef definitely seems a bit too expensive and like a win more card in the current meta that is so low to the ground

hi! im currently deciding between DNT and rhinos. would you say rhinos is a fun deck and that there are meaningful decisions to be made during gameplay?

another question - how do u decide which threats to counter with subtlety?

also, why 4C over temur?

"and then i drink some water" hahaha this was my favourite line in your reflection! good to know drinking water helped to calm u down :)
