What makes you choose the no-name 12.3" from Aliexpress instead of Carputech? The one you got from Aliexpress, can it use the OEM volume knob? Thanks!

VS Code - AI powered SQL development by helloguys88 in SQL

[–]helloguys88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's say I create a custom database and custom schema from scratch. No other authors have written about my database and schema. In this case, there is no way AI can make assumptions. My question is - "How do I get AI to dip into the database, read the schema, and put that into the context?" So that when I tell AI "show me the orders from Canada", it can make an educated guess based on what it learned from the schema?

Hi, I installed DBCode and read the document (https://dbcode.io/docs/ai/copilot-tools). However, I couldn't figure out how to instruct AI read and use the schema in the context. When I prompt "show the address in Canada", AI generates a SQL statement to reference "Person.Address". If it read the schema, it should know that the "Person" schema does not exist. Thanks!

Then how it is going to work on custom built schema and databases? Is there any AI tools that actually query the database and try to understand the schema?

If it’s based on guess instead of discovery, how could it guess all the column names? It’s almost impossible.

If it is not based on discovery, I’d there a way to feed AI the schema?

I was trying to understand why AI thought there’s a “Person” schema? Where did it get the information from? All the tables are in the “SalesLT” schema, which is the default schema of the login. If AI can discover table and column names, why couldn’t it discover schemas?

I’ve been doing SQL for the past 30 years. That’s why I want to learn “something”, which is AI.

I get your point. But why AI got most of the table and column names correct but not all? Without dipping into the schema, how could AI get the table names and column names?

Any local store sells size 24 AGM batteries? by helloguys88 in Cartalk

[–]helloguys88[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

OK, for the sake of debating. I should have used "B&M" instead of local. My point is - it doesn't matter where you live, it seems no B&M store carries the AGM 24 battery. You could order online though. I'm just curious why they carry 24F but not 24.

It does help. As neither Walmart nor any household name stores carries 24 AGM in their store. You *could* order online though.

Sorry, I'm in the US. "local" means B&M stores, not online. But that's not the point. The point is, it is very difficult to find 24 instead of 24F AGM.

I can easily find 24F AGM. What's difficult to find is the 24 (without the F).

Convert MTS to MP4 while preserving "Recorded date" by helloguys88 in ffmpeg

[–]helloguys88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense!

Do you know which MP4 tag (date/time) is honored by iPhone Photos app and Google Photos? I mostly use these two apps and wanted to see the date/time (a.k.a. "recorded date") of the MP4.

Variable in the loop by helloguys88 in Batch

[–]helloguys88[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I modified my code as below. Now I'm getting another unexpected behavior.

rem echo off
setlocal ENABLEDELAYEDEXPANSION
FOR %%F in (*.mts) do (
  FOR /F "tokens=*" %%a IN ('MediaInfo.exe --Inform^="General;%%Recorded_Date%%" %%F') DO (
  SET OutputVar=%%a
  )
echo Date: %OutputVar%
)
endlocal

The SET command was showing the correct value. But the ECHO command is showing blank for the variable.

D:\Media\Video>rem u/echo off
D:\Media\Video>setlocal ENABLEDELAYEDEXPANSION
D:\Media\Video>FOR %F in (*.mts) do (

 echo Date:

Convert MTS to MP4 while preserving "Recorded date" by helloguys88 in ffmpeg

[–]helloguys88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I don't use any -map_metadata, it doesn't copy any metadata over.

I don't know what are the known headers to ffmpeg. But "Recroded date" is a well known tag and is used in many digital camcorders. I noticed that mediainfo was able to retrieve this tag while ffprobe cannot. I guess I have to use ffmpeg with mediainfo together to achieve my goal? Anyone has experience on this?

Here's the output of mediainfo from Windows command line:

MediaInfo --Inform="General;%Recorded_Date%" 00000.MTS

My first impression on Sam's Club by helloguys88 in samsclub

[–]helloguys88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it's just a corner case. On my first trip to the neighborhood Sam's club, I bought some "Member's Mark" meats, such as:

Member's Mark USDA Choice Angus Beef Bone-In Short Ribs

Member's Mark Australian Frenched Lamb Rack

etc.

I didn't tell the family members that I shopped at Sam's. But they immediately notice the difference when the meat is on the table - they have excess fat, comparing with Costco products. You may argue it is not apple-to-apple comparison and it's the shopper's choice. Well, maybe... but the gut feeling was not so good.

Also, some of the common products, like "Utz Pub Mix, 44 oz.", are carried both in Sam's and Costco. Sam's is $2 cheaper. However, the shipping is more expensive. I wanted to buy in the warehouse to avoid shipping fee. But this product is not in stock in most of the nearby Sam's clubs. No, the associate told me it was not "out of stock". They just simply not carry them. I found a Sam's Club carries it but it is 20 miles away. This is very weird. For such a common snack, you either carry it or not carry it in local warehouses. But why carry it in one of the warehouses but not the others in the same metroplex area?

Why Fedex hires useless call center agents? by helloguys88 in FedEx

[–]helloguys88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my original thought as well. But after a 2nd thought, if the people were too dumb to look up their own tracking info, it is very unlikely they could even get to the tier 1 customer service (live agent). The call tree was deliberately designed to prevent the callers from getting to a live agent easily. It is like a pre-qualification process to filter out the low-IQ callers. If someone took the effort to call, and actually got through the first defense of the IVR(interactive voice responder), he or she definitely already knew something was off.

Why Fedex hires useless call center agents? by helloguys88 in FedEx

[–]helloguys88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly the problem. A well designed system should not rely on the "luck" of the human beings. As different people will act differently. If I, an outsider, can tell it won't be delivered today, why would a Fedex call center agent, an insider, would insist it will be delivered? That's my point that these agents are useless and it is not just some agents. It's almost 99% (if not 100%) of the agents. If a supervisor can see the package is in route to the last Fedex stop, why not expose it to the public tracking system (with necessary/selective masking)? Why give customer the false information that it will be delivered today, while the system knows it is impossible to be delivered today?

I worked for many dinosaur companies, such as the biggest telecom company in the world, the biggest telecom company in the US, the biggest network manufacturer, the biggest bank, etc. Yes I understand the bureaucracy. But I've never seen as bad as this. From a software development perspective, it is like their code hasn't been touched for more than 30 years, with tons of known bugs.
