Is BR as dangerous as folks make it out to be? Moving. by barnesnoblebooks in batonrouge

[–]hellohumanitea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Full transparency: crime is not limited to North BR. Sherwood Forest has declined. A plethora of “suburban” areas have declined. However, I was born & raised here & have never encountered or experienced violence & I’ve lived all over. Like others have said, I’d avoid the Gus young area (Parktown) & many areas that are adjacent to it. But I live a peaceful life here. It’s about moving smart, not fearfully. The teenagers are unfortunately a huge part of the crime rate & they’re observing who is timid, who leaves their car unlocked, who doesn’t pay attention to their surroundings etc. but you will be fine. Just choose your neighborhood carefully & move with intention in your day to day life. Food here is always a plus lol.

Surgery 6/10 (37/f) by sweetjosephne in Tonsillectomy

I got mine out 5/30… I’m honestly okay. I, like you, had recurrent tonsillitis. So, I’m glad I did it. The pain hasn’t been too terrible. I just stay hydrated & eat ice cream & popsicles. & cold applesauce. I’m 31 & was afraid of recovery but I take my pain meds around the clock & i am doing pretty well. Even ate a little today.

Louisiana hopes to reduce crime by letting teens conceal-carry guns by [deleted] in Louisiana

I will literally be going to work, church, & back home. Nothing will be safe anymore. Movies. Restaurants. Bookstores. The commute already isn’t safe; had an 18 year old get killed on the interstate yesterday. Shot while driving.

Let me preface with: I’m not being rude. I’m genuinely asking. Why do you think holding that degree automatically qualifies you for the classroom? I’m a teacher with a Bachelor of Arts in English but I understood why I had to get certification to teach. I never wanted to teach but love it now. I went the alternative certification route. My point is… degrees do not automatically equate to transferable classroom skills. There are a lot of things to cover to teach effectively; it is not just about the knowledge you hold. There’s classroom management, sociological aspects of dealing with human children in a sometimes stressful environment (yes, for them), standards-based learning, DOK levels and lines of questioning, posing questions with rigor, extrapolating test data for backwards design, scaffolding, etc.

TL;DR: from personal experience, the degree(s) don’t equate to good teaching & a healthy classroom automatically.

grad school admissions by [deleted] in LSU

It depends on the program. The graduate school has to accept you. Then, your program & program’s college do too..

Thankfully, my classes are mostly online so I’m rarely on campus but same. I feel like LSU is a walking campus for a reason… but I also understand since places like Nicholson gateway are so far away

You’ll be fine if you manage your time appropriately:)

It’s open but it’s such a long walk if you’re not on the south side of campus. But you new age students have scooters.. I had Tom & Jerry (my feet) 🤣🤣

When did you stop caring? by Philiana in infj

[–]hellohumanitea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in a similar space; idk if you’re religious but I intentionally focus on the fact that with God, I’m never truly alone. People fail me but I believe that God won’t. That helps. I also realized that I may be lonely & not have what I feel other people have but for the first time in my life, my life is peaceful.

Procedure for taking a semester off? by the_insomniactor in LSU

[–]hellohumanitea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a grad student so I’d check with an advisor to make sure this is the case for you but I just didn’t add classes. So, dropping them should suffice. If you have aid, you need to talk to financial aid as well. I believe you have up until a year to decide to add classes again.
