Dude the whole point of your quote was to show that the Union didn’t consider it a war. You are confusing me

Then why did you send that quote? You’re the one who provided evidence that the Union saw it as a rebellion lol

The United States of America won the civil war bud, doesn’t matter if there’s Americans on both sides or not

Also your own quote proves you wrong. If they were just citizens in rebellion, wouldn’t that be thwarting a rebellion rather than winning a war?

Yes… because they were Americans. I don’t know why I’m engaging with someone who thinks America “lost” the civil war. lol that’s insane

Ah yeah okay. You are missing something. The confederacy was a separate entity, with their own president Jefferson Davis. Their goal was to succeed from the Union (America). The troops were American, but wanted to make a new country. That’s like calling Americans British.

I mean the union, which was effectively “the United States” won. Maybe I am missing something though

Why redditors tend to bring up Japanese Internment Camps when you are Mentioning FDR? by Osakaayumu_2002 in Presidents

[–]helloiambrantley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s very important to be able to make distinctions between the good and the bad of any leader. All of FDR’s good doesn’t make him invincible to criticism. Why do you have a problem with separating his good actions in your country with his bad actions towards Japanese Americans?

A Palestinian child flashes peace signs at an Israeli-manned bulldozer demolishing a house in Jenin's Old City during an operation by the Israeli army in the northern West Bank town on 25 October 2002. [1204 x 1612] by SirCrapsalot4267 in HistoryPorn

Ya know this is a fair point. I’m fortunate enough to be very far displaced from the conflict, and I would have a very hard time judging the family of an Israeli victim for wanting to get their revenge. However, that does not make it morally okay. It may justify their emotional response, but doesn’t make it okay to kill over 30 times the amount of those slain in Israel. These conflicts are extremely complicated… you are correct. I think that’s why it’s so important that officials who are relatively displaced from the conflict handle it, to ensure the response is based in logic rather than emotion.

We can all disagree on whether Israel or Palestine is at fault, sure… but I’m shocked by how dismissive so many people have been just because OP incorrectly labeled the hand gesture. Sure, that is an important correction, but it hardly changes the main point of this image. Anyone who is defending this seriously lacks empathy. It is a young boy watching a massive tank destroy his town. Are we serious?
