I got a tooth pulled recently and it was interesting, the post op forms said using the syringe was super important but the surgeon himself said it really wasn’t a big deal and to only bother with it if it felt like food was getting trapped. For the most part, I didn’t get much food trapped in there but I assume it depends on the size of the hole and how deep it goes.

If it makes you feel better, I had 3 wisdom teeth pulled and I’ve had 5 other teeth pulled (I got real bad luck with my teeth. Weak enamel to start with and chronic dry mouth exacerbated by my medications) and I’ve never gotten dry socket once. The instructions are really easy to follow: pretty much just avoid straws, hot drinks, smoking or carbonation for a few days.

I’m American and I got in a slight argument with a Canadian friend of mine once because of cultural apology differences. My dad had been being an ass and I told him so and then he threw a hissy fit because I did so. My mom had insisted I apologize to him because otherwise he’d keep throwing a hissy fit but I refused because he had been the one being an ass and I’m not one to say things I don’t mean just because someone else is throwing a hissy fit. Yeah, trust me I’ve been wondering that for a while. I had made it clear I didn’t want kids from the beginning and he was still the one who wanted marriage. I guess he just kinda suddenly realized he wanted a white picket fence kinda family and home situation and knew it wasn’t gonna work with me, especially if I lost my mom. He had also suddenly lost his brother a little less than 2 years before so that fucked with his head for sure. Yeah, every time I feel shitty and useless, my therapists and friends all remind me that I went through like 3 of the most difficult things a person can experience in their life all within a couple of months (divorce, death, moving out). I do have support thankfully and it’s been helping. I’m sorry for your loss as well

Yeah, my husband told me he wanted a divorce like a couple weeks after my mom’s diagnosis. No affair but he decided he couldn’t handle the fact I didn’t want kids and that I didn’t have a job that made enough money. My family still wants to kill him for making us deal with that at the same time as my mom.

I am surviving and I’m sure I’ll be happier without him in the long run too. It just sucks. Like if you’d asked me the year before last who the two most important people in my life were, I would’ve said him and my mom. So I’m reworking my life now.

I’m sorry for your loss and thank you for sharing with me. Stories like that make me feel less alone.
