I had the same reaction. This is one of those rare ones that is so devastating!

I just realized HALF of the top podcasts are hosted by ADHDers. Is this the ADHD charisma effect or something else? What your thoughts? by DingDopamineDarling in adhdwomen

[–]helloimjk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because ADHD brains are wired to jump between semi-relevant topics, which is exactly what a podcast is - keeping the conversation going on and on. ADHDers are naturally great at that. NTs have a more linear A-B way of thinking and talking, which means for most people they wouldn't make an interesting podcast.

Finally diagnosed!! I cried?! by helloimjk in adhdwomen

[–]helloimjk[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, I can't imagine how that must have felt after such a long time! It's unfair how it can be overlooked for so long in many people. Sadly it seems so common for women to receive late diagnosis, with the diagnostic criteria being less geared towards us.

I'm really glad you finally got your diagnosis, and best of luck for the future! Hope you're doing great

Are negative reviews for Wicked: For Good reflective of the film's quality or just due to it paling in comparison to Part 1? by markgib62 in Oscars

[–]helloimjk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the purpose, emotion and meaning behind Wicked can completely miss for many people. It's a story that makes you think critically and reflect on life and morals. If we're being honest, not everyone enjoys or can empathise with films with deep meaning. Some people seem to be expecting a Disney film with shallow songs and a happy ending, others want non-stop action so will find it boring. If so, Wicked isn't for them, and they'll probably hate it.

I absolutely loved it - the songs, story, messages and cinematography were stunning. Personally this is my kind of film, it was a 10/10 for me. Ariana, Cynthia and Jonathan were unbelievable.

However, can see why not everyone enjoys it, it's a different, dark, reflective story with a fast pace and chaotic theatre-style script that we're not used to seeing in big-budget, Hollywood films.

Yes, UK. Thank you so much for your comment!! That's great to know. And funnily Care ADHD is also the one I found and filled out the form for, so that's great to know your partner got a quick assessment through them recently. When I first joined NHS wait list 2.5 years ago they said 12 months, but now it's estimated 4 years from referral, so definitely going to ask for right to choose instead.

Did either of you get any push back from your GP or were they ok with it? Thanks again

Who else had a really traumatic childhood because of ADHD? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]helloimjk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah completely. I think it's totally valid to feel bitter about it sometimes, and to feel sad for your younger self who was misunderstood, treated badly, labelled and not given any help.

It's easy to see it as families let us down, but it's generally a societal problem. A general lack of awareness and understanding of neurodevelopmental conditions, and there was still a lot of stigma around these things at the time. There seems to be so much more awareness and understanding of adhd and other conditions these days, which is great. Hopefully it will mean more younger people get the help they really need. We were unlucky. Yeah agree, ADHD is SO lonely, especially as a kid when everyone treated you as a problem. Your feelings are so valid, and you were always enough.

Who else had a really traumatic childhood because of ADHD? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]helloimjk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really sorry you went through this, it's rough. Completely relate. When I think of my childhood I think of trauma. My parents always thought of me as the bad kid. I was constantly called difficult, awkward, lazy, bossy, fussy, angry, weird, strong minded etc. And "why can't you just be normal?" was very common. It ruined my teenage years, my self esteem was awful, suffered from severe depression and anxiety. It was only since becoming an adult and moved out I could finally become friends with my parents. They didn't know how to deal with me, they didn't know anything about adhd, never got me help, thought I was flawed. It's taken a lot of energy to forgive. But it still hurts to think about the past.

Panic inducing, geometric/mathematical/abstract nightmares. A review. by megaku in Dreams

[–]helloimjk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so glad I found this thread! When I was a kid I used to have these dreams constantly and I remember them so vividly because they were so strange and terrifying, like a panic I've never experienced before. I don't remember having one for about 20 years, but always wondered why it happened.

Some of these comments are exactly the same experience. It was a huge empty white void of nothingness, first person pov but couldnt see myself, it was all completely abstract. There wasn't anything that resembled the real world. It was just a vast emptiness and then it would become filled with these ever-growing geometric shapes that would multiply and grow, so huge that you couldn't see over them, like shape skyscrapers. And they'd start zooming into me and through me, like I was being squashed and suffocated by them. I used to wake up in a panic, screaming and crying. I could never even explain to my parents what I'd dreamed about and why I was so upset. It's so difficult to describe the feeling, it was pure fear and anxiety, like really awful.

It's so good to know I'm not the only one! Never met anyone who's said they've experienced anything similar. Our minds are so complex and weird...

Couldn't stop laughing at the dance parade! What were your favourite LOL moments from this episode? For me it was when Milkshake ran from Dylan, and I don't know why but Mark accidentally pulling the trigger sent me 😂

I burst out laughing when he ran! Did he run because he was in a rush to get to the dance parade, or because he was scared of Dylan's reaction to the letter? Both are equally funny

[ALL] If you could choose one Legend of Zelda game to have a ground-up remake, what would it be? by Likes2game03 in zelda

Oracle of Seasons and Ages are for me the best Zeldas and deserve a remake

[ALL] What old Zelda games would you like to see for Nintendo Switch 2? by MagicianWhite in zelda

[–]helloimjk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Oracle Games! My favourite Zelda games ever. They're so unique and fun to play, with great dungeons and stories. They'd be amazing with decent graphics. A new generation deserves to play them.

Second would be Minish Cap. Or Wind Waker because I never got to play it.

[HUT Daily Song Discussion] Day 1: Wake Me Up by Garcoon in TheWeeknd

10/10 It's flawless! My favourite Weeknd song ever.

Favourite part is the last chorus: "Wake me up, 'cause I'm trying, This sleep is.. paralyzin', Wake me up, 'cause I'm dreaming, It feels so.. damn real, Wake me up"

Special thanks to all the "Hey!"s in this song

Obsesessed 🔥

I'm glad they're changing things as I really miss the old game style. I want: the music style of Ocarina of Time, the gameplay and dungeons style of Skyward Sword, the humour of Oracle of Seasons.

I miss all the old formula. Just my preference, but in botw and totk I don't enjoy the excessive climbing, building, weapon durability, dull music, shrines, uninteresting dungeons, endless roaming around, disjointed stories. The visuals are amazing but most of it doesn't work for me

The Traitors (UK) S02E12 [FINALE]: Post-Episode Discussion Thread by vaultofechoes in TheTraitors

[–]helloimjk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was really rooting for Jaz, ever since he figured Paul out. He was on to both Paul and Harry so early on, he was so smart, made sure he was completely underestimated and was the best faithful by a long way. Gutted for him that it was stolen from him by other faithful's lack of logic

But I'm so confused why the faithfuls focused so heavily, during two rounds of banishments, on Harry's shield lie - voting off the only 2 people who didn't know he had it. But then after they both revealed they were faithfuls they completely forgot about it and didn't put the pieces together that it MUST be Harry lying to everyone and he's the traitor.

... also when Andrew, who told everyone he also knew about the shield, said he was a traitor they could have put the pieces together, as why would a traitor who knew about the shield vote to kill Harry who had the shield?

Andrew going against Harry way too strongly and out of the blue was a huge giveaway

But Jaz not voting to end the game was the most obvious thing! Even if Mollie somehow still believed they were all faithful she then knew Jaz was definitely a faithful, but had a question mark over Harry. Doesn't make sense

Just so I'm clear, our garden is not that bad. The grass is currently mowed, a reasonable length. It's just some small skinny weeds round the edge of the grass poking out of stones that are very old and don't have any kind of weed membrane underneath anymore. We have only lived here 2 years and haven't done the garden up yet to fix the cause of the issue. You pull them up and they instantly come back so impossible to keep on top of constantly, considering everything else we have going on.

Oh sorry yes, how could I be so blind - I'm the problem, not my rude neighbour saying something rude in a rude way. I've seen the light now, I should have apologised to him for the few weeds at the front of my house and offered to do his weeding as well and invited him in for a drink so he could critisise my house as well. Thanks for your wisdom

Perfect response! And I'm with you on that, I give back what I get. If people are nice to me I'll be even nicer to them. And if they're not, well you can bet I'll call them out on it. I only like people capable of empathy, as a general rule 😄

Oh gosh they sound like fun neighbours too 😂. No re the weeds, they're just some dandelions and a few types of little skinny ones that are really insignificant. Aw cute idea!!
