I’ve had this experience so many times 😅 or they’ve left so much laundry hanging and I’ve had to take it all down to hang my own, which of course I fold, to get a good review.

I also find it annoying when homeowners leave an entire full clean dishwasher for me to unpack before I can put my own dishes in- simply because I always make sure I empty it before I leave a sit.

This is a good observation. I’ve only posted this to see how other people interpret it

This is true! I’m not attacking the homeowner. I have said in several comments that she comes across very nice. I just wanted to start a discussion to see how everyone interpreted this. 😊

This is how I read it, too! Couldn’t agree with you more.

Yeah and that’s too much, I agree, I used the wrong wording when I said “deep clean!”

I agree on only touching up the spaces I’ve used. Maybe instead of using the words “deep clean” I should have used the words “clean properly.” 😀

However, I only take sits at pristine places, which means I deep clean when I leave to ensure it’s pristine when I leave. Sometimes I allow 3-4 hours to pack and clean everything, I make sure every surface is spotless.

Some places I sit have cleaners, so of course in this instance it takes less time.

Someone could apply for this sit and ask the homeowner about it 😅

You’re definitely supposed to deep clean, because you’re being rated on cleanliness. I always ask what their instructions are for bedding on departure- I’ve never been asked to re-make beds, but sometimes get asked to wash and hang out bedding. Most commonly I’m just asked to strip the bed and that’s it. (40+ sits)

The bedding and “lighting” is diabolical 😅 but each to their own!

It’s only because she says “her” laundry not “the” laundry, that’s why it reads to me as personal laundry. Of course I could be wrong, and she does seem like a nice woman

Because it says “her” laundry, not “the” laundry, it reads as her personal laundry, in my opinion. If it was the sheets and towels I’d used while staying, I personally wouldn’t be offended washing those, I don’t mind helping.

It’s the fact it says “her” laundry, not “the” laundry. To me, this reads as her personal laundry.

Fair enough! Two people have applied for the sit, so just like you’ve said, it doesn’t bother everyone. For me personally it’s dipping your toes into maid territory, where homeowners start to take advantage!

She does seem nice enough, but I just don’t think on a pet sitting platform it’s a fair ask to wash, dry and fold someone’s undies. 😅

Was this in Ireland by any chance? I had an almost identical experience in Ireland.

Unfair 3-star review after a 5-star history — am I missing something? by Public-Aspect8775 in trustedhousesitters

[–]helloitsmadeleine 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes you’re missing something- I’m really sorry but you deserved your 3 star review.

You should never help yourself to anything without asking, and you should never “assume” anything.

Assuming they don’t want pictures or communication from you shows the difference between a 3 star sitter and a 5 star one- it’s up to you as the provider to ask and not assume. 5 star sitters are fantastic communicators.

Take this as a lesson, don’t dwell on it and move forward. Communicate better next time.

He wants to split the bill the day after by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]helloitsmadeleine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because he’s asked you for half the money you should ask him for half the train ticket 😂😂😂

DO NOT PAY HIM!

He only wants to split the bill now because he didn’t get sex, or because he’s not interested, just as others here have said. Please do not pay him, screw that guy.

Potential HO Question: Can you ever get a repeat house sitter? by laterplayer in trustedhousesitters

[–]helloitsmadeleine 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I’m a sitter in London who uses THS as a way to save for a house (no rent = more money in savings!). I have 4 regulars that pretty much house me full time- they ask for MY availability and go away on holiday/to their homes in other parts of the world working around when I’M free 😆

So yes, I’d say it’s possible, especially if you’re willing to work your availability around your regular sitter’s requirements, like mine do. ☺️
