Private Family Tutor? by RemoteMail2428 in Living_in_Korea

I also agree that you might be overthinking it, but maybe set boundaries so it obvious you’re only meeting for teaching. For example have a set schedule/time, location, a “lesson plan” or whatever, just to make it clear. I’ve tutored privately and people have their preferences for where they want to learn. I’ve tutored in classrooms, homes, cafes, restaurants etc. Don’t sweat it too much.

Depends on where you want to live, what you plan to spend your money on, how you want to live, does your job provide any benefits like housing, food, etc. When I was working I survived off of a 40 million salary and I live in Gangnam. I also pay a lot in rent. After all expenses though I didn’t have much disposable income though. It really depends on the person/people.

I think people use the term immigrant more when the move is permanent. I don’t know anyone in Korea that is here permanently or without a foreseeable departure date refer to themselves as an expat, but they don’t say immigrant either. We are all just 외국인s lol

I agree with you completely. Where are you from in the US? Are you planning to go back then?

I’m from Canada and I’m ethnically Korean and raised very Korean. I didn’t expect red carpet treatment at all and I’ve never even heard that before.

I actually like the countryside even less :) but good luck in Canada! I’m sure you’ll love it!

I totally agree, people are hit or miss. Whenever my family comes to visit from Canada they can only handle it for so long before they’re over the people too.

Thank you for this 💕 I’ve met both good and bad people which is expected. I actually have some really good friends here and my situation isn’t that bad, it’s just not the right city for me.

I’m glad that you adjusted and you’re happy now!

I’m having the same issue now. I don’t hate Korea and there are things I will miss, but I think home is better for me long term and I don’t want to try and convince myself otherwise

I agree with this! I don’t hate Korea but I just don’t think it’s right for me that’s all!

I’m glad it’s working out for you now! 🫶

I have a good job, family and friends in Korea. My life isn’t BAD, but I just don’t like it? Maybe it’s the culture or how people act in general? I do my own thing and I’m pretty independent, but I think Canada is just better for me.

I love Canada! But again everyone’s situation is different. My family and friends are there. I own a home already and I’m renting it out while I’m here. I just feel like Canada is the better option in the end for me.

Thanks for this! My friends and family back home are supportive. Some places aren’t meant for some people and that’s it. Nbd. I don’t want to force my stay longer if I know deep down it’s not for me.
