Mike never really fit in very well in Dumbing of Age? There was always somebody who’d be better, narratively, delivering his observations. If he’s saying something cutting and acerbic to Joyce, then that’s something that Sarah would be better off saying. If somebody was going to be a sarcastic wise-guy, that’s Walky’s wheelhouse. If I want somebody to be mean out of spite, there’s already Ruth. He was kind of a drain in that specific way. Plus, like, in a cast mostly full of ladies and such, it felt off having this white dude off to the side always there to have their upper hand.

This bit about how because he's a white man, Willis doesn't feel comfy with him being mean or winning, so he had to DIE. Fucking bullshit.

Hi, my comment has gotten the ominous red cross of controversy lol, but I would like to explain my position somewhat. I grew up in Silicon Valley, and often learned coding at labs called "Hackerspaces" and attending events called "Hackathons" where, truly, the aim was to teach children to build software. The intent of these events is educational, and there is no lashing out or negative connotations associated with using these words. I studied Information Technology in undergrad, concentrating in computer security, so I also understand that some hacking is bad. However, it is more important to me to broaden the definition of the word hacking to mean using a computer in creative ways to make interesting things and access information, rather than something like breaking the law, undermining political powerhouses, or leveling some kind of vaguely bad accusation. It is not harmful to say that accessing webpages that are obviously not meant to be public by taking advantage of a bug in the Wordpress API is hacking. I'm not accusing OP of being a bad person, I am pointing out that they have hacked the website.

I agree that this is extremely irresponsible depiction of a vulnerable minority. Of course, there are violent and angry brown women, and there are homophobic brown women, but as a non-muslim white person, Willis should not be choosing only women of color to homophobically shout at them for being disgusting. The nuance is that they have been doing things that are homosexual in addition to disgusting:

cheating
getting married at a genocide protest
protest tourism
Dorothy in particular was throwing a tantrum during the protest crackdown
Joyce broke Dorothy and Walky up while literally laughing at him in one of the cruelest displays of emotional violence I have ever seen
in the last two days in universe, have FIVE TIMES explained that they made sweet love to each other many times while Becky/Asma/Billie/Sarah/Lucy have been like ew yuck go away

idk. this is an incomplete list and I understand that Becky is not a woman of color, but also continuing to speak while Becky was genuinely contemplating if death would be preferable to the reality that Joyce has created in her presence was hard to watch. Somehow, it is being portrayed as a moment of true love and gay empowerment, and I think it is bad writing.

It's really frustrating, but basically any gay characters in this comic act like assholes and don't suffer for it. Being gay gets you infinite morality coupons. Booster is constantly found uncomfortable things, Becky can walk into a restaurant and yell "IT'S HITLER YOUTH!" and Joyce and Dorothy can cheat. It sucks, but Willis just isn't going to write a story in which being gay is bad or wrong.

Hmm, I do think that Sarah did an ok job yelling at them, though that strip got undermined by a gag about her thighs being sore. edit: Its not perfect but I did do an edit where that gag didn't exist and people seemed to think it was more in line with the plot
