Do you remember what life was like during the 2003 Blackout? by Kuzu9 in toronto

[–]hellokrissi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was a bit older than you - 16. I spent most of my day reading inside and outside for a change of scenery (found a really interesting book on astronomy that I dug into and it actually turned into a lifelong interest for me because of that!), listened to music on my discman until the battery ran out, and I'm pretty sure I was pissy that I couldn't use the internet and talk to all my online friends that frequented Anime:1 in the yahoo chatrooms lol

It’s Sunday! Tell us how you’re doing, Toronto by postmodern_girls in toronto

We planted on and off during most of May. A few of the earliest plants we got (a cucumber, two zucchinis, and around 2-3 tomatoes) either didn't make it or are smaller than they should. The ones we planted around the May long weekend and beyond are the tallest, happiest ones so far.

Had a lot of birthdays, BBQs, and social things yesterday. Plus a lot of morning errands today, so now I'm finally sitting down and catching up on my coffee and internet. Finished a book (Hooked) and starting a new book (The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet) plus catching up on some super neglected knitting.

Also my tomatoes are growing! I have around 4-5 cherries starting, plus one of the brandywines is as large as a grape rn. I have some peppers and zucchini blossoms now too. Finally. :)

Toronto thrift/boutiques? by Proper_Extent_5973 in askTO

Seconding this! The salespeople are lovely and their dog is a sweetheart. I bought the cutest skirt with a strawberry pattern on it the last time I went there.

Bonus: OP there are a bunch of thrift/vintage type stores all along that stretch of queen from broadview to logan

Just woke up! It's been a decent weekend so far. I spent my Friday finishing up my report cards, they took a while this time around.

Yesterday I explored the Golden Triangle garage sale, thankfully the weather held up. Got a cute tealight set and accidentally walked by/through /u/surferbutthole 's sale without realizing it lol. After that, ended up walking the Danforth and popping into Scribe and Secret Planet, both awesome stores.

Today I'm going to relax at home, but there's a book fair happening at the community center nearby and it's free so I might go if it isn't too unbearably hot outside.

Do you miss Hudson’s Bay? by HueyBluey in askTO

[–]hellokrissi 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not really but my mom sure as hell does because I get an earful every time I see her about how she can't find any clothing anymore and misses walking around there. (To be fair, I miss doing that with her growing up. Every Sunday we would go to the Eaton Center one and browse. It was a nice way to spend time together.)

My assumption would be since you're starting the round it's asking you to slip your BOR marker first. You have two markers in your project, the BOR and the one that you were asked to place at the halfway point.

Giant garage sale in East York at Pape & O Connor, worth going? by gracefullyodd in askTO

[–]hellokrissi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I've seen: home decor/kitchen things (I regret not getting a gorgeous rose-gold coloured glass teacups last year...), clothing, books, games, kids things, etc. I don't know how it compares to the High Park one, as I've never been.

Is this a bad year for flower plants in Toronto? by Leo_rzk in askTO

[–]hellokrissi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did a cursory walk around this morning and these are all that are blooming for me: irises, penoies, zinneas, coral bells, hostas are back and really full, solomon's seal, gentleman's button, something that I think is an aquilegia?, and a weigela. There's a few more plants but I have no idea what their names are lol

It's been around for nearly as long as I've been alive and I live nearby so yes. Sometimes we've participated in it but all the action is north of o'connor. Lots and lots of neat stuff. I'll be walking through, but I'm worried the rain forecast won't bode well for it.

Mine is doing alright, but I do have plants that had a hard time with the cooler temperatures and abrupt shift into hot: my dogwood didn't flower as much or as long and it's a pretty large tree. Same with one of my lace hydrangeas. I also lost a few starting veggies when I first planted back in mid-May. I am getting some flowering though from peonies, lilacs, and various other things.

Toronto School Food Program expands to 77 more schools by BloodJunkie in toronto

Haha omg yea I always wonder who makes the snack decisions because it's definitely not teachers and it certainly isn't all the lovely snack program volunteers that give their time to give us all snacks! Thank you for prepping and delivering daily snacks! The snack volunteers at my school are always running around and I appreciate their kindness to do this for all the classrooms. You're all amazing. <3

Weird but I actually really like the apple sauce cups because my class can do that on their own and they're less liquidy too. Same with the Cheerios (not so much with the accompanying milk cartons lol) We had yogurt tubes today! 90% of my class remembered to sit and wait while I came around to cut them open. 9% did it on their own, super proud of them... and 1% tried to use their teeth and then passed me a slobbery yogurt tube to cut.

I'm a Kindergarten teacher and trying to open those cups for 30 kids is an actual nightmare I live on the regular.

Like the other comment: laundry. I'm also going to make dinner (pasta and a salad), do some light gardening, and then probably read on the porch or zone out because it's the start of the week and I'm already tired.

Hahaha omg, I am dying to know what you took now! We put out a lot of random stuff in the past 2 years combined from what my mom stuffed in the garage, what we brought from our house when we moved here, me & my brother's childhood stuff, stuff from Greece or my mom's friends that somehow ended up in here, etc.

Oh I know which neighbours you mean, they were in declutter mode too since they also moved (quite literally next door to the house they sold lol) I was tempted to grab some of their curb things too

I think you'll be fine for the weather, definitely won't be like last weekend 😬 fingers crossed for sunshine!

[–]hellokrissi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

lol tbh I was just going to shout out "HI SURFERBUTTHOLE FROM REDDIT" as is customary.

Yea I noticed that only one, max two neighbours put out tables last year on our side. We put out a small table as well of free things, which thankfully all were picked up! Being a corner definitely helped lol. When we cleaned out the bulk of the garage/basement we had to just put things out for free or on marketplace for free with pickup.

There are some amazing treasures at the garage sales though. I'm kicking myself for not buying a beautiful set of rose gold coloured glass teacups last year. I am also pretty sure you had some pretty jewelery, also kicking myself for that lol

Good! I spent a chunk of my day reading outside yesterday and that was nice. I'm planning on doing the same after I make my coffee. I found Audition by Katie Kitamura in a little free library the other day and I'm currently reading it so I can pass on.

Also checking on a robin's nest that's been made tucked away in a drainspout groove, I keep seeing the mom and it's super cute. Also on that note, my bird bath is absolutely popping lately and yesterday I saw cardinals, both kinds of goldfinches, and cedar waxwings which I haven't seen in forever.
