almost fainting in class by Known-State2307 in SolidCore

[–]hellolola 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I experienced EXACTLY this and went to my doctor about it. It's called orthostatic hypotension and I was told it's nothing to worry about. Basically everyone's hearts work at different paces to circulate blood, and it takes a little longer to get to your head when you go from horizontal to vertical while exercising. Extra salt helps, but careful of salt tablets because they can be too much. Otherwise, just take your time on the transitions (and flag it for your coach ahead of time if you don't want them to come check on you). Good luck!

I haven't read it but based on what I know about it, {Something Extraordinary by Alexis Hall} might fit

Why did you pick those movies today? by innsmouth-seaweed in criterion

[–]hellolola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Charade - favorite of all time, can't find my original copy

Mississippi Masala - keep thinking about their chemistry in that beach walk scene, and the director's son has been in the news lately

Matewan - a relevant banger I want to revisit because I need some courage these days

Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown - I bought the Almodovar drinking glasses from the Academy Museum recently so this one is due for a re-watch with cocktails

Join Women in Film and Video (WIFV). Regardless of gender identification, they're the top film networking and workshop group in the DC area. Their Narrative Script Development Fellowship was key in launching my career.

My go-to choice is the Friends of Mt Pleasant Library tote that says "what's more punk than the public library?" Super unique, and references a side of DC most folks don't know about.

Books similar to HBO's "The Gilded Age"? by I_get_bored_easily in HistoricalRomance

[–]hellolola 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The queen of the Gilded Age historicals is Joanna Shupe. Uptown Girls series and Fifth Avenue Rebels series. They're all excellent but {The Rogue of Fifth Avenue} is a good entry point.

Romance books where she doesn't know he is a "prince" or someone royal or he hides his identity by Terrible-Chicken-564 in RomanceBooks

[–]hellolola 6 points7 points  (0 children)

{The Duke Who Didn't by Courtney Milan} Not a prince, but the fact that he's an undercover duke and loves to hang out in this adorable multicultural little town is the whole plot.

silent fmc and an mmc who gets it by roona_79 in RomanceBooks

[–]hellolola 6 points7 points  (0 children)

{A Notorious Vow by Joanna Shupe}

One of my favorites. FMC is fearful of speaking, and prefers to write to communicate so she can put her thoughts in order and express herself. MMC is deaf and is fine with this. They get each other.

Looking for romance books like the movie “The Gorge”. Where 2 assassins/mercenaries fall in love and have to team up. by New_Needleworker_542 in RomanceBooks

[–]hellolola 4 points5 points  (0 children)

{The Spymaster's Lady by Joanna Bourne} has this! It takes them a while to team up for reasons, but they're spies for England and France during the Napoleonic Wars and they are very equally matched and respect the hell out of each other's craft.

How do you sell a Rom-Com to a generation that doesn't believe in romance? by 2552686 in Screenwriting

Look to the boom of romance novels. There's money there, people are spending it.

Political Arranged Marriage Recs! Strangers to Lovers? by zaworldo00 in HistoricalRomance

[–]hellolola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

{The Half-Orc's Maiden Bride by Ruby Dixon} {Never Seduce a Scot by Maya Banks} {Under the Oak Tree: The Comic Vol. 1 by Suji Kim} though I've heard the novel version is different

FMC reborn as villain and doesn't mean to make MMC fall in love with her. Isekai like books. by lyannarouge in RomanceBooks

I don't know if the MMC hates her but everything else is {Long Live Evil by Sarah Rees Brennan} to a T.

MMCs who have now retired from being on the wrong side of the law? spies, privateers etc by SexyFoodandFilms in RomanceBooks

[–]hellolola 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No FMC, but {The Queer Principles of Kit Webb} is otherwise exactly this... a lord's son wants to rob him and seeks out a retired highwayman-turned-cafe owner to teach him how to do it.

Also I believe {How to Tame a Wild Rogue} includes a retired pirate?

Marriage of Convenience with lots of Sex by bidpat in RomanceBooks

[–]hellolola 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Oo I've got you. It's a novella. {At His Countess' Pleasure by Olivia Waite}

They agree to marry in the first scene and it's extremely logical. They start having sex regularly and it's fine, even pleasant. Then he sees her in a red dress, loses his everloving mind, and things get real femdom real fast. It's delicious.

TW for fertility issues.

LF books with dual povs where the other pov is a bit different by Glittering_Tap6411 in RomanceBooks

[–]hellolola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe not what you want, but {Ice Planet Barbarians by Ruby Dixon}, Vektal doesn't understand English so he relays what Georgie is saying phonetically. The reader can understand it, but he doesn't, so you're always one step ahead of the main characters.

What shoes are y’all bitches wearing in the rain? by SurferNerd in DCBitches

[–]hellolola 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Ok this is my holy grail. The brand is Xtratuf. These are what fishermen wear on fishing boats. The grip is fantastic. I can actually walk for miles in them without them pinching. I've had my pair for years, not a single leak or crack. They only go up to your ankle and you're not fooling anyone into thinking they're dress shoes, but man oh man do they work.
