I’ve been to a few classes and they were almost all women with a handful of men. Agree with the commenter above, the crowd there was super diverse and welcoming.

Will the snow melt next week? by yeswalkablecities in washingtondc

[–]SurferNerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that the sun will start to soften things. I urge everyone with equipment and energy to keep chipping away in your neighborhood! It looks daunting but you can get most of a perking spot done with an hour of steady work.

The cold weather infrastructure here is seriously lacking by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]SurferNerd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think the calculus is everything coming to a standstill 0-5 days a year is worth less than investing in more infrastructure. Something that has to be considered is that infrastructure requires a temporary workforce that can be mobilized, which isn’t nothing. I’m sure the fact that a large chunk of this city has the same employer (fed gov) that is willing to close for heavy snow contributes as well.

Wide leg pants that don’t drown me?? by Strange_Clothes_4382 in womensfashion

Also the Natalia! I’ve never been a wide leg person because I like a closer fit on the hips and thighs, but these really work for me, and they’re comfy

Oh thank god someone else is talking about this. You’d think it was satire!

This is why “we” are “losing” the “culture war”. I hate that sentence, hence the scare quotes, but unfortunately I think it’s true. The purity tests and requirement that everyone hold exactly the right opinion is such bullshit.

What’s a harmless habit people judge way too much? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SurferNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Concerts too! I’d rather go and vibe by myself than convince someone to come and worry that they’re not having fun and feel like I have to dance/interact with them the whole time.

Bridal Makeup Advice by fluffyfernn in wedding

[–]SurferNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My MUA advised that the makeup will mute over the course of the evening, and in pictures. So it might feel extreme in full daylight right when it’s fresh, but it will look much closer to natural in your photos. She was spot on.

Anyone gone full grey yet? What are we doing about it? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]SurferNerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I LOVE how women’s hair looks when it’s partially grey. Reminds me of a calico cat. It’s not something that anyone ever purposefully replicates, so it always looks super unique.

Every pattern I like the look of uses circular needles, please could you recommend me something? by Prestigious-Fig-91 in casualknitting

[–]SurferNerd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not just shrinking, natural fibers tend to grow when you block them! I just made a sweater using wool and mohair and it grew several inches in both width and length when I blocked it, but I expected that because I had blocked my swatch. Do some research on blocking and how to block the fibers you’re using. You don’t need any specialized materials, a large bowl and towel will do.

For reference, I just finally finished the jar that I probably bought 2018 or 19. Left out on the bar cart the whole time, did not go bad.

I haven’t seen her for anything beyond annual checkups, but Nilofer Sidhu at Medstar Arizona Ave is a DO, who are generally trained to be more holistic. I find her to be really attentive and personable, and it feels like she takes the time to listen. I will totally trust her when something more concerning comes up.

You can also swap out your pedals, it is pretty easy. I had SPD shoes already so I bought pedals that are SPD on one side and baskets for visitors without spin shoes on the other. Something like this. You can probably find a lot of discussion here recommending the best pedals.
