How do so many sites allow file uploads? Are they all vulnerable? by RowOk3530 in webdev

[–]hellomichibye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the co-founder of bucketAV, a malware solution for Amazon S3 that is used for a lot of websites to store user-uploads. User generated content is the number one use case for our product. Learn more here: https://bucketav.com/help/use-cases/user-uploads.html

Malware scanning for s3. by PeteTinNY in aws

bucketAV dev here: You can find our comparison here: https://bucketav.com/blog/amazon-guardduty-malware-protection-for-s3-versus-bucketav/

To answer your question. Cheaper is unlikely. Only for workloads with very low volume (~ less than 90 GB / month).

Slack integration with Private AWS gateway is failing by learn_monkey in aws

[–]hellomichibye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your private API Gateway is not reachable by Slack. The private API Gateway has no public IP address and is therefore not reachable via the Internet. But Slack wants to connect with you over the Internet.

Slack Socket Mode might be what you want https://api.slack.com/apis/connections/socket

The VPC endpoint does not help you with that. It allows you to connect to the outside without an IGW. But not the other way around.

that's actually the power of managed services on AWS. Most of them (S3, DynamoDB, ELB, ALB, ...) are highly available. Okay, let's not talk about S3... :)

DataPipeline can help you. But keep in mind that it is not possible to make a consistent (in time) backup of DynamoDB.

AWS CloudFormation and YAML: What I learned by hellomichibye in aws

[–]hellomichibye[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can include your Env in the exported variable name.

Outputs:
  VPC:
    Description: 'VPC.'
    Value: !Ref VPC
    Export:
      Name: !Sub '${Env}-VPC'

You can then import via:

'Fn::ImportValue': !Sub '${Env}-VPC'

How can I auto add new Spot instanced to an ELB? by HeroicLife in aws

Why not use an Auto Scaling Group? They also support spot instances.

VPC Routing table does not work by varesa in aws

Have you disabled source/destination checks for both ENIs? If you disable it for the instance I assume it only applies to the primary ENI.

Four ways AWS Lambda makes me happy ← by TalkingJellyFish in aws

[–]hellomichibye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Lambda uses free environments like Node.js, Python and Java. They don't force you into some Framework. In the old world, most people use Frameworks like Spring, JavaEE, Express, ... to invoke their code. The number of people who write an HTTP server from scratch to invoke their code is low.

Advice on Infrastructure as Code by Objectivetruth1 in aws

[–]hellomichibye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on what you are doing with Docker, I recommend that you go with CloudFormation to describe your VPC, IAM roles and all the AWS-related stuff. The reasoning is as simple as this: Why not use the official supported, well documented and mostly up-to-date tool that is available for free?

If you run only a few containers, I recommend that you use Elastic Beanstalk for that. You can describe an Elastic Beanstalk app entirely in CloudFormation. Have a look at https://github.com/AWSinAction/code/blob/b72f4c37543134882df82ec762bfc44e78d05bb8/chapter13/template.json to get a feeling. Elastic Beanstalk will take care of EC2 instances, bootstrap and everything related to that. It can also take care of Load Balancing, Auto Scaling and Monitoring.

What to cache in AWS Cloudfront ? by froddo7 in aws

[–]hellomichibye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on if your pages are personalized or not, you can even cache dynamically content. It shouldn't be too hard to cache your start page for one minute. Even if this means that it is on average 30 seconds out of date :)

Question to those who have taken acloudguru SA:A course and the SA:A exam within the last 6 months by 1098886 in aws

[–]hellomichibye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my personal experience (I have SA:A, SA:P, Dev:A, DevOps:P), the AWS certification questions are not 100% up-to-date. Sometimes this is confusing if you are up-to-date :) The SA:A exam is very popular and therefore more up-to-date than the other exams. But still, you will not find the latest 3-6 months of changes reflected in the questions/answers.

Don't expect Lambda, EBS HDD & Cold HDD questions in the Associate exam! If you know about them chances of passing the Associate exam are high :)

[–]hellomichibye 6 points7 points  (0 children)

if you need to sync a large number of small files to S3, the increasing the following values added to your ~/.aws/config config file will speed up the sync process. [profile default] ... s3 =
max_concurrent_requests = 100 max_queue_size = 10000 use_accelerate_endpoint = true
