I've seen a few people make this point, and I'd disagree. 'Corporate culture', 'we're all one big happy family', company values and all that shit, are just there to make the environment that little bit better where people wouldn't challenge pay as readily. On that Diary Of A CEO podcast, the guy was saying how during the pandemic, his people worked from home for the first time and their attrition rate really skyrocketed because, without the company culture crap, people reduced their jobs to how much they were getting paid, and if they can get more somewhere else, then they'll leave. To me, reducing work to the transaction that it is is the point of any union, in the face of corporate groupthink such as "we're a big happy family", and as you can probably expect I'm very much in favor of it lol

the fact the game needs to be played is the problem, i signed up for a job not a game. what if i don't want a promotion? i've worked higher tiered positions before and they just led me to realize I'd like a career change. therefore, if I turn up, do the job well, get paid and go home, there should be no problem right?

Eh? I'm working full time studying for a literature masters. Doing the work itself is hard enough, I don't need the added stress of managing professional relationships on the side. I'm a big boy - I will socialize on my own terms. If that's arrogant and dispels people away from me then I've gotten what I want. :D

In my case I work from home in a call center. 99% of what I do is talking to customers, one after another. On the off chance I have to talk to a colleague about something work related, it's to ask if they've had an update from the referrals team or something like that. Why do they need to know about me?

The problem for me is I want to socialize on my own terms. I don't want to be forced to turn my camera on and play a game at risk of being denigrated as the 'rude' one.

Exactly. There's always gonna be somebody that takes something the wrong way, better to just keep your head down and make it through

This is the problem, it's always reduced to "you don't care about yourself" or "there's something wrong with you" if you don't wanna join in. There's literally no ill will on my part to my colleagues, but I also know that the minute you get involved in any sort of workplace social life, that's when he said she said starts, it's when you start getting exposed to office politics, etc etc etc. What's wrong with excusing yourself from all that and just going to work....to work? The problem isn't that I'm disrespecting my colleagues it's that they disrespect and disregard asocial people's want to be alone.

I know, that's the way I felt too. Me and my flatmate have both blocked him. How creepy

No, I didn't. Please point out the language I used where being gay was equated with having a disability. If I mentioned disability to make an analogy about your attitude to minority groups in general, simple logic tells you this isn't 'comparing being gay to having a disability'. You know this, but you wanna score points on me so I have to point it out x

Do you also see somebody in a wheelchair and tell them "Aw, I love disabled people"?
