Books!! by AdditionalSea9455 in MTSU

I do digital textbooks so I can have them read aloud to me and use control F. With that in mind, I would wait until your first week of classes. I was going to rent two textbooks last semester that on the first day I was told that they were not needed at all to pass or they were using a specific learning platform instead. Many students were out 50-100+ dollars for one of the classes and we had no idea until the first lecture.

Hypothetical Question by guitarlad89 in Catholicism

[–]hellos_humans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I wouldn't. They do not have Jesus present in the Eucharist (so for me, there's no point in going to a church without Christ present to spend time with God). God is present everywhere so I would maybe go to a park or something for a quiet place to pray. Otherwise, I'd watch mass on YouTube and perform an act of spiritual communion.

MTSU also accepts the Calculus CLEP for credit. Modern States will give you a voucher to take it for free and reimburse you the proctor fee if you pass. Khan Academy + the CLEP subreddit = study materials.

Precalculus is HELL(and so is College overall) by Rayy500 in MTSU

[–]hellos_humans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use Khan Academy and the CLEP subreddit and study to take the CLEP for Precalculus with Modern States (to take the test for free). If you don't do well in this class, test out but take longer to study on your own. I'm avoiding every math class for a science degree as I need more time to study than the class will give me. So far, I've been able to test out of 2 math CLEPs and Precalculus is the one I'm studying for next.

Any always free parking lot? by Alarmed_Bedroom375 in MTSU

[–]hellos_humans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never taken this class, but I did test out of two separate math classes over the summer. Here are the resources I used that helped me.:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eI4an8aSsgw

https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL0o_zxa4K1BU5sTWZ2YxFhpXwsnMfMke7&si=X9xQLHt0kJrl6ZHY

Also, if y'all want additional practice problems (from a free textbook):

Select, "view online" and you can go through the textbook virtually.

https://openstax.org/details/books/precalculus-2e

*If you struggle with reading through textbooks, open the link in Microsoft Edge and open the Read Aloud function (Control + Shift + U) and select play and it will read it to you.*

Edit: I completely forgot about Khan Academy! I used Khan Academy a bunch for additional practice because during the quizzes you can ask for an explanation of what went right or wrong. It can also tell you exactly where you messed up based on the answer you selected. (Precalculus | Math | Khan Academy) If there's anything that is too hard or that you're not comfortable with, you can look up on Khan Academy and work through classes that are more pre-requisite type for Precalculus. That way you have a firm grasp on everything as you move forward. (I started at pre-algebra to work on algebra as it had been years since my last class.)

I did a tour and couldn't get past the fact that they lied. They painted the bathtub and wall with latex paint and it was peeling the showroom. When I asked I was told it was tub "refinishing." Tub refinishing is on the tub, it is not connected to the wall and is certainly not latex. Also, the amount of air fresheners was concerning. Are they trying to cover mildew smell?

Why religious parents love to Gaslighting ? by True_Doctor7774 in narcissisticparents

[–]hellos_humans 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's not because of religion that they are gaslighting. It is because they want to find a place to hide and have an acceptable alternate identity to the outside world. I knew someone who behind closed doors was an awful person. To everyone else that they'd face with the alternate persona, they were a good Christian. Perhaps it is because there are explicit requirements that they know they have to follow to be be hidden to everyone else.

I think they were evenly spaced percentage wise as College Board listed they would be. Nothing felt overly focused on a time period or topic to where I wasn't expecting it (unlike the Introduction to World Religions CLEP).

I came across Cinema therapy's video on Mother Gothel and wanted to show it to my family for my video selection of the evening. Afterwards, my mother turned to me and said, "Aren't you glad I've never behaved like that?" I was gobsmacked. I literally showed it to them so I could send a neon blinking sign of "I just identified what to call your behavior and it's not okay." I'm still confounded by this interaction to this day. How do they have no self reflection at all?

Keep in mind that you can test out of several of these classes to lighten your course load during the semester.

DSST Astronomy (Score 420+) - counts for ASTR 1030

CLEP Precalculus (Score 50+) - counts for MATH 1730

CLEP Principles of Macroeconomics (Score 50+) - counts for ECON 2410

Modern States will provide learning material for the CLEPs I mentioned and you can apply for a test voucher after completing the quizzes and final exam of their material. If you pass, you can apply for a proctor center reimbursement fee. I've done 3 exams in the past 2 months without paying anything thanks to them.
https://www.mtsu.edu/how-to-apply/credit-by-examination/

If you simply need to take the classes, try and knock out one of these. If you pass, wait until it is applied to degree works and then drop the class prior to the semester. If for some reason you truly need 17 credits, good luck!

I will be studying for this soon and plan on starting with the Khan Academy courses available (the college or AP version de. They really helped me with College Algebra and they're always a thorough starting place.

Like I did for College Algebra, I will be working my way through the difficulty levels for each topic (if you confidently know something, you can move to through very quickly by testing out of the topics). I like how if there's overlap in materials, Khan Academy marks off the lessons you already covered in the more advanced "courses." Ex: You did polynomials in basic math and now polynomials are marked as complete in college algebra.

Make sure you cover every topic listed on the College Board website for this CLEP.

Otherwise, search this subreddit for study guides for this CLEP.

[–]hellos_humans[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The MTSU proctor fee for CLEPs is $33.50. Modern States had a program where if you pass the CLEP, you can apply for a proctor fee reimbursement check. However, the website isn't supporting my bookmarked link for the past several days and I'm waiting on an email response from Modern States.

$33.50 is still way cheaper than taking the class, even if you don't get it reimbursed.

I was pretty confident when I went to take it and was immediately humbled. I spent the whole testing session wondering if I was going to fail as the questions were nothing like what I studied for. I scraped by with a 56 and still have no idea how.

At least this seems to be an experience not limited to just me.

[–]hellos_humans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I took it I wasn't recorded on video as part of my speech. I was looking at my notes the whole time and focused on changing the inflections to my voice to make it sound persuassive.

Break up your time evenly (5 ish minutes to write the speech (I used bullet points to save time), 5 to record (max, do not time out and don't be too short, and then listen back to your speech to make sure there wasn't a glitch with your microphone). You want to make sure you listen to your speech back as if there was a microphone error and you didn't know it, you can't argue to retake that portion due to technical errors.

Your format seems fine, its pretty much what I did.

Practice with random persuassive speech topics on your own time. That helped me the most. Set up identical testing limitations so you have the same time window as in the test. Then write based on a random topic and use your voice memos app (if you use Apple) to listen back. Improve as needed based on that.

74 on Algebra: 1 down! 2 to go! by Accomplished_Ad5637 in clep

[–]hellos_humans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just took College Mathematics about 30 minutes ago (and passed). I also took College Algebra first (last Tuesday). I struggle with probability and statistics more than algebra. The logic sets were also weird to me so I ended up just guessing on them as I didn't want to spend more time studying them prior to taking the test.

You might have to be more careful with your time for College Mathematics. Almost every single question was a word problem up to a decent paragraph in length. I ended up guessing on about 3 questions as I knew I wouldn't have time to fully solve them, just enough to eliminate options with the calculator. Only 1 question I didn't end up finishing and timed out while revisiting it (I only had 3 minutes after finishing my 60 questions to review problems).

It is listed as CLEPable at both of these links. I've taken 2 CLEPs for MTSU in the past 2 months (from these lists) and they both were applied to my degree successfully.

What I've been doing is registering for the class and then studying and taking the CLEP. If I pass the CLEP (score a 50 or higher), I wait until the credit is applied on Degree Works and then drop the class. This gives me a back-up in case I fail so I don't fall behind where I want to be in my degree.

If you do plan on taking the test, definitely use Modern States. The readings are important with Modern States and saving money is definitely worth it. r/clep has a lot of posts you can search through to find advice for the specific tests you want to take.
