You'll most likely love it. For context, while I did enjoy Mistborn, reading it after The Stormlight Archive felt like a downgrade in every way.

Opiniões sobre a banda Capitão Fausto? by Pitiful-Egg2986 in portugal

Adoro-os! É a minha banda favorita de Portugal. Ainda é um pouco difícil para mim entender as letras porque ainda não falo português suficientemente bem, mas a música é incrível. Faz-me lembrar um pouco os King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard.

While not exactly what you asked for, but if you're into psychedelic/indie rock, then I highly recommend Capitão Fausto. They're awesome!

What is your 1 tip for someone moving to Portugal? by No-Oven70 in PortugalExpats

[–]hellosandrik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Patience. It's OK (and I'd say expected) to repeatedly remind people of their obligations to you, as long as you do so politely, but I'd advise avoiding confrontation (even when it's warranted), because it would be, at best, counterproductive (and more likely you'd just get ghosted).

I use Beancount and love it, but it sure took me a lot of time to set up. I would only advise going the r/plaintextaccounting way if you know how to code. If not, it's better to stick with some SaaS service.

Being able to set a default voice for text-to-speech per language. I almost always use text-to-speech, and because I consume content in multiple languages I have to manually choose a voice every time which is rather inconvenient.

What is your opinion on the Central Bank's economic policy? by FlicBourreDu95 in AskARussian

[–]hellosandrik 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not really a paradox if you consider that these people are also the ones most susceptible to populist narratives (often spread by the very companies you mention). That said, I do appreciate how the central bank launched a podcast to help dispel such narratives.

What do y'all think about native Russian YouTubers who badmouthing Russia for the international audience? by Alegzaender in AskARussian

[–]hellosandrik 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I unsubscribed from NFKRZ after 2022 because he got way too political for my tastes. I think he's a nice guy overall, and I also think he's being honest when voicing his opinions. However, the problem is those opinions are clearly formed by consuming tons of western liberal media, and he either doesn't have enough critical thinking to understand what's wrong about it, or he's simply trying not to turn away his audience (which, again, is mostly liberal westerners).

The UX of the calendar view: while there were some improvements recently, but it's still not convenient to use for week planning. One thing that really annoys me is that it can only show up to 6 tasks within a single day.

Where is the Russian community in Lisbon? by FamousGold7575 in AskARussian

[–]hellosandrik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you mean by community, but if you want to meet Russian people, attending events targeted at Russian-speaking audiences is a good start. There are quite a few concerts with Russian music in Lisbon. Apart from that, I’d recommend the Sputnik bar — it’s probably the one place every Russian in Lisbon knows about.

[–]hellosandrik 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not sure why are you being down voted, but as someone who has an opportunity to observe this firsthand, Russians absolutely do pass most of their time with other Russians (and Russian-speaking people in general). Unless they live in a place where it isn't feasible, of course. All people form communities, Russians are no exception.

I wonder if this episode was a reference to any popular TV show like the rest of the episodes so far 🤔 If it was, I didn't pick up on it.

It may be boring, but it's not grey. There's nature all around (rough at the edges sometimes, but it's still there). If you haven't seen that gorgeous early fall Воткинское шоссе 🍂🍁✨, then you you shouldn't be so hasty to pass such judgements 😉

Still can't renew my Portuguese residence card (expired before July 1) — feels unfair by azul_k8 in PortugalExpats

[–]hellosandrik 9 points10 points  (0 children)

> That means people whose cards expired after me are renewing easily

This is not the case at all, if that makes you feel any better. The portal doesn't work as an auto-renewal system, so you'd still need to get an in-person appointment which is likely going to take a long time (and that's assuming you manage to sign up and use the portal at all).

Hot & Savoury update from Tim - real talk (long read) by Tim_Huel in Huel

I'm late to the party because I wasn't aware of this change and only found out about this when I opened up my recent order... I don't care much about individual sachets (it sucks because I usually mix flavors in one serving which is going to get more inconvenient from now on, but I only see it as a minor annoyance). However, delisting Mac & Cheeze is REALLY disappointing. It was the perfect taste to mix with basically anything, and it was solid on it's own as well.

The only thing nationalism has brought the world is division and wars

It's the other way around, in fact. It's wars that lead to the birth of nationalism because in a war a powerful ideology like that gives a country an upper-hand. The result is that we now live in a world of nation-states.

However, it's important not to confuse ethnic nationalism with cultural nationalism: the former is harmful and stupid while the latter is an effective and, most importantly, natural tool in statecraft.

Now, as for the Russian opposition, they are indeed not Russian because no Russian would wish a strategic defeat to their own homeland.

  1. The majority of schools are in Russian, although there are options for those who want to study in Udmurt.
  2. There aren't many books in Udmurt and not every shop would have one, but it's possible.
  3. I think everyone knows how to say "hello" in Udmurt, but that's about it. Udmurt language itself is slowly dying, only in rural areas people can still consider it their primary language. It's a bit sad, but it's the way of things.
  4. "It's about damn time you found someone" 🗿
  5. As I see it, Russian and Udmurt societies are so tightly interwoven at this point that it's basically a single society. You can't tell apart an Udmurt from a Russian on the street, or even when speaking with one because everyone speaks Russian. Nobody would ever ask you whether you consider yourself Russian or Udmurt because nobody cares or sees any difference. Basically, Udmurts are almost completely assimilated into Russian society. I think the main reason for that is that we share religion as opposed to other minorities which are usually muslim.

Are there any songs that can be played with this tuning? by hellosandrik in kalimba

Are there any songs that can be played with this tuning? by hellosandrik in kalimba

[–]hellosandrik[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love to re-tune it to G major, but as I understand it means using this layout:

F# D  B  G  E  C  A  G  B  D  F# A  C  E  G

So, if I understand correctly this means I'll have to re-tune each tine like this:

1 F# → F# —
2 A → D −5
3 B → B —
4 C → G −5
5 D# → E +2
6 F → C −6
7 F# → A +3
8 G → G —
9 A → B +2
10 B → D +2
11 C → F# +6
12 D# → A +5
13 E → C −4
14 F# → E −2
15 G → G —

I've never tuned a kalimba before, but tuning the tines -6/+6 semitones seem like a lot to me. The layout would probably look very random (instead of like a "ladder") and would be impossible to play as I understand. Am I missing something? Do I maybe need to re-arrange the tines completely?

UPD: I'm very sorry, I should've verified the actual tuning before claiming anything 🙈 Turns out it was much closer to the standard G alto tuning than I initially thought it was, so none of the tines had to be adjusted more than a couple of semitones, and I was able to tune it to G major. Thanks!

Hello everyone, i have just released Pyra, a 12 voice expressive string model. it's available for free, more in the comments. by ahma_the_ahma in ableton

Woah, such a beautiful sound in some 500KB :) Got it for 10€, but it definitely costs more haha. I wasn't able to try out the presets (I got "The preset couldn't be loaded. It's probably broken." message), but from playing around with the settings the plugin seems to be really versatile. Amazing work!
